Is this an option?
Hi Mates,
sorry for having you left aside some days, I was out!! question: there's a guy in France offering a red 930 and saying it has the option 935 or S. The car has on the rear fenders a duct (like the Ruf). Does anybody know if this was done originally in the factory or if its an option from Porsche? I'll try to attach some photos. Best regards and thanks for your help. Here in Barcelona everything OK!! salute Johann ![]() |

That is the "factory style" brake duct as used on the 930S slantnose cars. Factory 930S slantnose cars actually had the oil cooler locate in the passenger side vent.
The car as shown does not have the vanes or "strakes" as some call them. I have seen some cars like this one where the vanes were either not added, or they were removed. I see what appears to be Small holes at the leading edge of the vent which would indicate removal of the vanes. You will have to try to verify through records as to if they are original. Some were ordered on these cars through the factory as an option through the Special Wishes dept. Others were added by aftermarket shops. Hope that helps you... Paul

(what's up Paul) - something doesn't "feel" right about the fitment of this from a "factory" perspective - and I think it has something to do with the placement of the rear vents... I have DEFINITELY never seen a badge like that - would be astonished if it was factory. The only "naked" eye indicator that I am aware of on the "special" order turbo cars of the 80's was the steering wheel - where all of the factory delivered "Buyer Optioned" cars had a steering wheel with a painted Porsche crest to the right hand side of the wheel horn button. - That's my 2 cents.

Hey Ryan...
Oh I agree, that badge is definitely an incorrect mock-up! Looks like factory "Turbo" badge with "S" from the 993 Carrera S. However, some of the other 930S parts was available al-la-carte through the Special Wishes Dept. When they started bringing the 930 back to the states in 86, you could order the options through the US dealer! The full 930S slantnose option was $26,000 !!!!

Yep - I worked as a porter in the summer of 1988 at Ryan Motors {No Relation} (Porsche, Mercedes and Lotus) in Fort Worth, John Hancock was the GM and called me over one day to tell me that a very special car was being delivered and I was to come and get him when it arrived. I asked him what it was and he told me I would know it when I saw it. It was a Thursday, around 4 pm, truck pulled up inside was the ugliest guacamole / baby poop split pea green special order slantnose 930 the world had ever seen. When the driver pulled the car out of the trailer, it got even worse. The buyer had also ordered, and I swear to GOD this is true, GREEN EEL SKIN SEATS! N0 SPIT - it was horrible. I didn't even want to drive it - to this day, I am still haunted by the color. Sticker was $119,523. Anyone want to take a guess as to who had it built?

OK Who...?
It sounds ugly and I believe I have seen that split pea color on other Porsches..usually Euro cars though. The 80's was and interesting time for colors combined with swoopy spoilers and big wheels and tires. I remember traveling to Germany and scouting cars and parts while vacationing.. I was amazed and the then burgeoning use of candy colors on Porsches, Benzes and BMWs by some of the custom shops there..this along with wild interiors and stereos! What really made me laugh was when I found who was suppling the paint they were using... it was House Of Color from right here in the good old USA. I even suggested to one of the shops how to change the hue of the candy was to use a different color base coat as the candy its self is translucent. Having been around custom bikes and cars for so long I was very familiar with the brand! One of these days when I figure out how to work the crappy scanner I have, I'll go through some of the old pics..scan and post as there was actually some cool stuff running around the streets. Paul

Ok, ok - this is who special ordered the car -
http://www.afterellen.com/People/2006/9/martina.html Actually, it would be interesting to see if someone out there has it - $10.00 says it has been re-painted.

I always heard the turbo S as the slantnose. The vents on this car look like the slantnose but without the fins. Also, any 930 should have dual exhaust tips on both sides?

Slantnose cars were refered to as 930S by the Facotry and its dealers.
The cars referred to as "Turbo S" are the latter 91, 92, and 94 3.6 cars. They were all done on the 964Turbo platform. Although the Turbo S option was offered for the 993 as well there was nothing special about the front fenders... the car was special though! The slantnose fenders featured the pop-up lights from the 968, the rear brake ducts were way different (kinda-of-a egg shaped scoop) that sat higher on the 1/4 panel and had no slats. Most of these cars also had yellow calipers. Agree with you on the dual tips.. it balances the car nicely. However, they came from the factory with either a single tip or a duouble tip on the singe pipe which exited on the drivers side. P-

Well, obviously it's a Euro.
![]() Johann, Is this a 1987-1989 vintage 930? If it is, it's going to have an oil cooler in the passenger side air vent if it's a 930S. The '81-'86 Special Wishes cars may or may not have the huge 911 RSR oil mounted in the front valence.

I think you meant this one, the TurboS. Pic below. BTW, it currently has ~600 HP.
