Swapping cranks question?
I just replaced my 1986 crank with one from an '87. I had to change the gear drive on the distributor as they are different between the years. So far the engine is running good. There is a slight roughness at idle but I also changed to SC cams and S/S exhaust. My question is has anyone had any problem with using '87 crank in an '86. The engine was a complete rebuild new Mahle pistons, some valve work, stock rods
thanks, |

I think your in the clear- I got a 993 crankshaft in my 930 case and have no problems.

We have discovered that there were two different distributors available for the '86/'87. We changed the drive gear on the '86 to a '87 to make it work but it is idling rough. It appears to be OK thru the other RPM ranges.
We have definitely isolated the problem to the distributor. So it appears the next step is to switch over to the '87 distributor. Anyone else very had this issue? |

two different distributors were available in '86/87. One turns clockwise the other counter clockwise. The only difference we have found is the gears on the crank and distributor are different and the shaft thru the middle of the distributor appears to be different. Anyone know who may sell the distributor shafts. I need to convert mine?
