DING!
PM me - mine'll be off next week or so when my Rarlyl8 system arrives. It's in perfect shape. |

May I ask why you want/need a W/G muffler?

Maybe I need to be educated on just what to expect if I don't use one. I'm doing a somewhat stealthy, early 930 engined '73 coupe. When I hear about the "Gates of Hell" opening when the unmuffled wastegate dumps - what does that mean?
Like a straight piped Harley? Worse? I have zero 930 experience. Please let me know! Scott |

It is not possible to make a 930 as loud or nasty sounding as a Harley, so you can lower that baseline.
The open waste gate is loud, simply because it is an open exhaust, but the sound produced is vary "airy". By that I mean it sounds like the air volume whoosh of a jet taking off. You can difuse the sound a bit by pointing the dump pipe toward the ground under the engine. The sound level stays up in the cockpit but is reduced to the others around you. If you truely want stealth get a stock early US muffler that has an integrated W/G pipe. All of the exhaust must go throught the muffler with that design. It will only work with the waste gate in the stock location. .

I like the rear exit 934 style wg pipe that I got from Brian (RarlyL8). I find that it not only looks cool (IMO), it takes the in-cabin whooshing sound volume down a bit where the exhaust is redirected towards the windshield of the WRX I just dusted. I previously had a GHL wg pipe pointed down, like Brian described, and it was loud but not bothersome- this new one isn't quite as loud and has a nicer sound to it.
