930 Header modify quest.
Greetings:
Has anyone modified their stock 930-Headers to 3 into 1 route. Very interested if anyone did it. Pics please.... This is what RUF did....964-Turbo.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1213993608.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1213993635.jpg |
Why that looks like a Ruf RCT. I'm just finishing up a top-end on one of those...
The original Turbo exhaust is not THAT different from the RCT setup. The turbo is simply mounted a little closer to the collector of both banks on the RCT Those are NA 3.6 heat exchangers. Ruf built a really nice "up" pipe to install the turbo where the catalytic converter used to reside. They then moved the NA catalyst to the original primary muffler location. It's kinda funny they are making 400hp through a stock NA cat. conv. designed for maybe 275 hp?!?? |
Mike
What do you think is the best solution for the 930??? Where can I buy a 3-1 flange??? Or just get some pipes, do my own measuring and some good welding??? Opinion please.... thnxs. |
I don't see the advantage over stock Euro 930 exchangers. Bigger ID tubing?
|
This is what I have on my 930 custom exhaust system. It is custom headers with heat by MODE (Bob Holcomb). I really like the performance of this headers.

Dai....
THAT IS SOME SERIOUS ART WORK!!!! WOW!!! I am still working on coloring books.......................................... |
Thanks. I didn't do any work on it. I just paid it through my nose. ;)
|
I can see why you paid some serious $$ for that setup....looks nicely done. Never seen heat exchangers designed like that. Do you have any dyno info on that setup? Very interested in your results. What exactly does that wastegate pipe configuration do?
|
nice work indeed. I'm not sure, wjfk, what you are considering doing or even what your asking? Are you asking about "merge" collectors? versus stock flat factory style?
I would most likely agree w/ any advice Brian (rarlyL8) gives you... Especially when it comes to exhaust... |
Mike.....
What I am inquiring, is keeping the stock 930 headers (durability) and getting some piping runninng across into a 3 INTO-1 merge collector. Has this been done? Is it possible? Is it worth a try? Or just wasting time and money. Durability factor is very improtant to me. Spending good money on BB and then falling apart in so many years frickin-blows.. Schnell,OBX,GSF, all look great......But will it hold up more than 5years. I guess my answer is start a fabrication project and see what happens... Thnxs. |
Chuck, here is the dyno info you requested. The dyno was done on DynoJet and the horsepower is WHP. This is with headers, turbo, muffler and intercooler replacement from stock. No other upgrade were done. This car has Euro fuel head.

Reference your questions about the stock muffler....I have RarelyL8's Y pipe...and he "conspires" with Ben at M and K. They're both masters at this sort of thing.....Brian is the guy to ask about technical exhaust issues and questions.....but take note of his signature....."one crotchety old bastard".....actually he's a true gentleman and has been a tremendous help to me in building up my system.
You didn't explain what that unusual looking wastegate tube does....why is it designed in a sort of an angular T fashion open at both ends?? Must be for a particular sound? Brian sent me one of his stainless Zork tubes and it works great....looks great. |
Chuck, I'm guessing that WG tube is just for show like the stock C2T one is.
|
Gotcha Nathan.....thanx for the clarification.
|
That is correct. The WG tube is just for show to balance out the dual exhaust look.
|
I'm not understanding what it is you are trying to do. What is the 3 into 1 route you refer to?
The stock Euro / late-US / 965 heat exchangers shown above have 3 primaries per bank that murge into a 3+3 into 2 into 1 J-pipe configuration. I am unfamiliar with the Ruf modification but it looks like they place the turbo closer to the 3+3 junction. Here is the stock Euro setup. What is it you are trying to change, the J-pipe? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1214265826.jpg |
Here is the 934 setup from another post, it's a bit different so thought it might be useful

Brian...
Thanxs for your input.... My current exhaust is a euro-930 setup-no cat..I apologize for not being clear. As for your pic. Can the LEFT HEADER-IN THE PIC--Is it possible to fabricate a pipe directly to the merge collector. With that, then RIGHT HEADER IN THE PIC-Is it possible to cross over a pipe over, meeting the merge collector. So all 3 pipes leading into 1 merge collector? As seen with the Ruf pic. I know is not a 930 set-up.. But I think you know what I am getting at. I have never seen 930-RUF headers or if they make their own. What size piping would be optimal? Do you think can it be done??? I beleive the oil resevoir small tank would have to be changed/relocated and a long braided oil line added... Thank you for your time and input.. |

Maybe you could sketch a pic, scan it and post the pic. |
