New to Porsche Need help supercharging my 3.0
Hey thanks for looking.
I recently bought my dream car (a 1983 Porsche 911 sc widebody) with a bunch of aftermarket parts, and a new engine. What i want to do before too long, is supercharge it. (like a Paxton or vortex supercharger) i think I'd put it where my A/C compressor is and plumb it. What superchargers would you suggest? do i have to change my fuel system? Has anybody ever done this before?? And info would be appreciated. Thanks! JJ |

Im also looking to supercharge my 1980 911SC.
No one seems to produce a kit anymore although there used to be a few companies that did. After serching the web the cars that have been supercharged are all custom made kits with verious superchargers, pulley systems and intercolers. Check this one out for example : http://www.supercharged911.com/engine.html I don't mind spending the time to put together a custom kit but it would be easier to find someone that has done it and can give a list of required parts and maybe a rough guide to setup etc. If you get any info please let me know and i'll do the same, me email is gavinc69@hotmail.com Cheers :-) |

Search my name, there was an update just yesterday.
Your posted link is to Ray's car, he and I have been working together on mine. The brackets and manifolds are the toughest bit, you need to work with a fabricator to do that part properly.

Yes it was. He had it dialed back to ~0.6bar if memory serves. That car pulled HARD.
Felt like a small block chevy was back there.

It appears most of the parts required can be sourced from :
http://www.tpcracing.us/ They do supercharger kits for 964 and above but because the engine layout is basically the same I would imagine the supercharger unit, its mounting hardware and tensioner etc would also work on the SC engine. Its then a case of finding out how to connect the whole thing up and what additional parts would need to be sourced/made to do this. I would be grateful if anyone that has an old install guide etc for the German Autos Of Knoxville supercharger kit for the 911SC would be kind enough to scan it and email it to me (gavinc69@hotmail.com) Hopefully I could then see what needs to be done to complete an install. SC Supercharger
I'm working on one for a 3.0 SC, here is just a test fit. Parts still missing but it helps to keep me inspired.

Link to info from 'Porsche Performance Handbook' on supercharging :
http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=xHef4GKEQy8C&pg=PA167&lpg=PA167&dq=porsche+911+sc+supercharger&source=web&ots=hCMHVTYeYp&sig=z3Fbv2o-8nBSm5Gazul19ks6pTY&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=2&ct=result#PPA167,M1 I've just emailed TPC to ask if they will sell the 964 supercharger kit in seperate parts so i can purchase just the bits i need for my SC conversion. My engine has just been checked over and unfortunatly there are 2 broken head bolts!!! The engine will have to be rebuilt. Luckely it has the early 8:5:1 compression pistons so supercharging it should be a bit more reliable. I will also install an intercooler but due the the lack of space under the turbo tail because of the CIS intake i will install a larger Kremer type tail as below : ![]() I'll have ARP bolts installed on the rebuild. It also looks like its best to use MSD igition to retard the advance under boost. According to the turbo guys on the forum CIS will manage the fueling etc by its self as long as the boost is kept relitively low. |

280-300hp would be nice and is possible.
It has been suggested several times a 964/993 transplant would be better but i would prefer to sick to my original engine, have it rebuilt and install a supercharger. One of the reason's is i then know the engine is good, having been rebuilt, last thing i want to do is install a used engine with 80,000miles plus on the clock to find it has problems soon after. Plus I like a bit of a challange and its something a little different. |

I have the same issue as gavinc69, two broken studs on an 8.5 compression 3.0L. The rebuild has begun and is being documented here:
Rebuilding and Supercharging 3.0L I'll be posting on a separate thread on the supercharging, since I have some questions on the connections and parts. I have a 3.6 RS (bi-wing) tail. Hopefully it won't interfere with the SC. I like that tail on the cab.

Just come across a 1978 SC for sale in the UK that has a supercharger.
The installation is a bit different. Doesn't look like it would have a tension kit installed!!! The seller claims 0-60 in around 4secs...MMMmmmm
