Ihad chromed rims on my 86 turbo. I am guessing it was an option from the dealer. They sent the rims out for chrome plating so it it nice and shiny for the new buyer. Depending on climate, they can last for a very long time, or in Hawaii, they go bad. I had those rims stripped and reanodized. Do it before it gets worse as those pits can run deep.

strip off the chrome by a old front strut with a spindle and find a old air compressor motor bolt the motor and the strut to a work bench or weld one up on a piece of metal . fit a v belt to the motor and around the center of the rim and start wet sanding, then finish with polish . it works really well and is super easy and doesn't cramp your hands 0nce you set up the jig you can do a wheel in less than an hour.
