aftermarket Turbo kit for 993?

Hi
I’m seriously considering adding a Protomotive type kit to my 96 4S.
External kit only, stock compression ratio, 91 octane California gas, moderate boost because of these parameters.
Yeah, I know I could probably sell my car and buy a nice factory Turbo for about the same $$$$$, but I really enjoy the bond I’ve built with my car AND I like to tinker.

Posting here instead of the 993 board ‘cause I think there is probably more turbo expertise here.
My primary goal is to gain a big slug of TQ in the 2500 - 5500 RPM range.
Not looking to have a 500+ hp fire breather, (at least not yet).
Would love to reach out and start a dialog with any of you that have added an aftermarket kit to a 993.
Got lottsa questions beginning with;
Can I use my stock 96 DME for this application, or should I take advantage of one from a 97 Turbo that is currently available?
Any vendors other than Protomotive I should consider?

Thanks

Just a suggestion. You have a very nice, valuable, and marketable car.

Maybe sell it and buy a 993TT. In the long run probably will cost less and you will have a better car.

Otherwise call Protomotive. They will use your DME and flash there program to match there kit.

I had a 600hp 993tt. I now have a 450-500HP 993C4S Vram tt conversion. I prefer the high compression C4S vram over the turbo. At 7-10 psi of boost the car is a joy to drive.

Forget about 91 oct fuel though. With that fuel you will be lucky to run 5psi of boost on top of stock CR. Water/meth would help that.

I have a second 97 Protomotive ECU loaded with the program needed for such a conversion that I would be willing to sell. During the tuning phase it made for fast turnarounds on re-calibrations. Send me an e-mail if you are interested or want any other questions answered about the kit. I have lots of pictures too. thogan7242@gmail.com
