Just made my neighborhoods day, neighbors kids finally stop by to see the 930

I’ve owned my 930 > 3 years now, since then I’ve noticed boys slowing down when going by my garage on there bicycles so they can see what’s going on in my garage. Well today a group of 3 boys stopped and asked if they could look at the 930, I think they were about 10-13 yrs old. I exactly remember doing this when I was about the same age. I sat them down and served them soft drink's and proceeded to tell them the history of a 930. I gave one of them the keys and said start it up (I was nervously clinging over his shoulder, confirming neutral and such ) I am convinced I just turned some young ones into Porsche fanatics, just like what happened to me at that age! Anyways I thought it was cool, thought I would share…

Good story! At our old house, there must have been a dozen kids that lived nearby that all looked at the car at one time or another. Always wanting to know the fastest I've been in the car?

That was an awesome gesture from you and those kids will never forget that event. It reminds me of my dad and I, many many years ago, when he used to explain the tweaking of his 356 before taking me for a spirited ride... just awesome!!!

From time to time I make house calls for very good customers of mine to work on their cars. I often get the local kids doing the exact same thing, or even some of the direct neighbors poking their heads in to see what's going on(stranger in their neighborhood) who then end up staying for a chat about the car(s). It's always good fun

Now, you've opened the door! Now they'll be over for you to fix their bikes because 'their' dads don't have the tools.

Being a lifelong motorhead, I used to talk to the adults in my neighborhood who were doing things to cars I was interested in. Most were jerks but some would be nice and actually talk. Clayton, it's guys like you who are nurturing the future motorheads.

The kids that used to drop by my garage in IL were teen-agers. Usually high school guys who just got their first car. I lived in a small town on Main Street so all the action came right by my house. It was interesting to hear some of the far fetched stories they had to tell and then set them straight on reality (no your buddy didn't run 150mph in the quarter with a stock Firebird, here are the specs). I once had a 20 something year old guy drop by in a step side S10 Extreme and proceeded to tell me he had the fastest 6 cylinder in town. I asked him to pop the hood. After observing nothing more than a stock engine with a K&N air filter and loud dual exhausts I looked over to the turbo and said "I don't think so, wanna go for a ride?" He must have shared the experience with a few buddies cause after that I had to start shutting the garage door to get my work done.

 Nice one

Rod, That pretty much sums up my childhood except the cars were owned by my family and some of my brothers friends. Boy do I miss those days of freedom with nothing to worry about except when dinner was ready. Thanks for the keeping the spirit alive and reminding us that we need to carry on the tradition. We are back in town now from London. Check your email when you can. You have a new message. Bryan

I probably felt the same way they did only I was 23 and a guy couldn't figure out why his rear fuel pump wasn't working so he asked me if I could look at it and in about 20 minutes I had it working like a champ, but he let me drive it! I was hooked.

Thanks for reading all! It was pretty cute the Q’s they asked (is it faster than a Targa? I answered correctly ) I remember being a teenager in the early to mid 70’s and used to ride by this guys house on my “Sting Ray Bike” that owned a Black 911 of some sorts, all I remember was it was Black, Loud and had a Duck Tale on it. I used to slow down and kinda linger out front waiting for the invite...never happened. I knew at that time I would own one someday.
