Loosen the big metal strap that is under the ignition coil draped over the fan housing... but then again you might have a 996TT for all I know and my response would be considered stupid

Take the I/C off, then the coil and bracket off (where it bolts to the fan shroud). Then loosen the single bolt that attatches one side of the metal fan shroud strap to the other. Then you will have to undo the air difflector from the back of the alternator, undo the wires, then pull alternator/fan/ shroud out of the car.
In order to get the fan off of the alternator shaft, there are a couple of ways. Here is the way that I do it..... There are around 10 to 12 small holes that are cast into the fan, right around the pulley. Tap two of those holes... one across form the other, 12 and 6 o'clock positions. Then screw in a long bolt, one into each hole. as you alternate screwing both bolts in, the fan will slide right off of the alternator shaft. DO NOT hold the fan by the blades of use anything to block the blades as the will chip / break...and you will have to buy another fan. Its very easy to do.... now, on mine...since I already have the holes tapped, I can take my fan off while its in the car......

Thanks... Yea, once the holes are tapped, screw in the long bolts, and they bottom out on the alternator case. Then, as you screw them in more, the bolts will "push" the fan right off of the alternator shaft. I came up with the idea, since I had no puller available.... worked great for me..!!
