So, I just bought these Speedlines...
...and wonder if any of you can advise me on what it will take, in terms of spacers, to make these fit on my '89 930. They were just sitting on ebay for too long... and I felt sorry for the guy. Really, I did. 18x9 front with 50mm offset, 18x11 rear with 45mm offset. Thanks, Dave |

I have different 18's on my 930, but from what I remember they were 52offset up front and 45offset in the rear. I had to put a 1 inch spacer up front to fill in the flare and not rub the cooler. The rears sit in there just fine, but I put an 8mm spacer in there to push them out just a little more...
Hope that helps. Of course I have an 83' which might have different factory spacers then your 89'.

There is a little room for fine adjustments but thats real close to 996TT offsets.
If you don't want to install longer studs than you have to use hubcentric adaptor/spacers on a 930. Try 1.25" on the front and 1" on the back on top of the factory 28mm spacer. I have used 996TT wheels on my 930 and they are the same offset and size as your speedlines accept the fronts are 8" wide. I had a 1.5" spacer on the front and that worked but I'm suggesting 1.25" for you because your wheels are 9" wide. 1"spacer on the front may also work without rubbing at full lock. I havn't tried that. Those wheels had 225/40 fronts and 315/30 rears. You could use wider front tires on the nines. |

The problem is your car does not use the same kind offset that the later 964/993/996/997 cars do. Where you would have something along the lines of 5.25" backspacing up to 6.25" most late model Porsches have 7.5 upto 8" of backspacing (this is the older way of measuring). Which is why most people have to use 2 - 3" wide spacers to make the late model wheels fit the earlier cars. Because you have turbo trailing arms your wheels are already push out vs the earlier 911 with non turbo trailing arms and wide fenders added.
To really make these wheels fit well you need to change the inner and outer hoops and would allow custom fit wheels with no spacers needed and a larger rear wheel. Your 11" rear wheel is probably an 8" inner and a 2.75" outer and there is a crush ring of .25" = 11" The way I am describing is 6.75" or 6.5" inner with a 4.75" outer lip making an 11". jim jdorociak@gmail.com |

OK, so here's my "figuring" on the fronts:
Old wheels are 7.5 inch width with a 23mm offset, and the new ones are 9 inch width a 50mm offset. With a 1.5 inch rim width difference (about 38mm), and the difference between 50 and 23 is 27mm, this should mean that using my current hardware, 27mm of my "new" width will move to the inside, and 11mm will move to the outside. Assuming the inside can accept this difference, I believe the outside should be fine. Attached is a picture of the current hardware. Is everything past the brake rotor considered a spacer? I've messed with a lot of cars, but never really seen wheels mounting like what is on the 930. The one on there is 1 7/8 thick. Thanks for the input... Most 930's have front hubs that actually stick out further than a stock 911 hub assembly, which is why you probably have more room towards the inside fender wall. Try looking at your current wheel and see if indeed you have space. How does the outside of the current wheel look in relation to the fender lip? The fuchs were 7 & 9's and the rears usually have a 1" spacer anyway. Jim |
