best wastegate?

am looking to upgrade my wastegate, stock one is getting a bit tired. Am thinking of
either a tial 46 or pro-gate. Any thoughts as to which is best would be grateful, and which particular model No etc.
many thanks Matt...

Absolutely no complaints with my Teal 46.

Some guys have run wastegates off eBay with success. Long term results, I don't know.

Tial is the best hands down, no competition that even comes close. The second best that comes in a mile behind is the HKS gates (this is opinion), but I dont even think that they have a product that would bolt in place of the stocker.
The Tial F46 is a great wastegate and if you want to go a little more modern you can use the Tial V44- but you would have to weld a diffrent flange on. The advantages of the V44 is the v-band flange and flows slightly more than the F46.

I have always wondered why the stock WG is not the best.
WG’s are binary systems…they either open at the pre-described bar (spring) rating or they don’t.

Seriously, am I missing something here?
Why would one be better than the other providing they both open at the same bar?

I don't think it's an outright upgrade, but if your stock WG need rebuilding, the thought has been to buy a new Tial. At one time I thought it was hard to get new diaphragms, but I think Stephan at IA could get them.

Otheriwse, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If it aint broke dont fix it is right. You will gain no performance at all by changing the waste gate. If your stocker is froze and you want a maintenance free replacement, then get the Tial.
The Tial is far better than the stock as far as longevity is concerned, but for perfromance I am pretty sure the F46 is just a cast stainless version of the stock unit.

The same factory wastegate has been in my 930 for 29 years. I have had it apart several times to change springs, replace broken studs, and to just ck. the general condition internally. Over the years I picked up a couple more used because I thought I might want to use them for spare parts; so far they have been under the bench for 10-15 years. It makes it real hard to justify 400-600 bucks so I can say I have a Tial wastegate that doesn't add a damn thing.

Hell my first wife didn't last that long and was not nearly as faithful.

That's' good, Cole! Hit the nail on the head.
My stocker decided to leak too much through the valve guide, and through a high-temp (asbestos?) gasket that's sandwiched between the two main components (hard to describe). So I lost my trust in it and bought a used Tial for around $175. Haven't looked back since, but my car is now worth $1000 less because it's no longer stock in the WG arena.

Thanks for all the suggestions, my 930 is pretty much stock with 80,000 miles on the clock so looking to replace turbo, i asked my well known porsche tuner in the uk about rebuilding the waste
gate at he same time, he said it would be worn out and you can't rebuild them. Sounds like he just wanted to sell me a new one! I think i will look into replacing the diaphragm and spring in stock
waste gate...

Outside of replacing the diaphram if it's torn, there isn't much else to go wrong other than valve guide and/or stem wear. Awhile ago someone posted either here or in Rennlist some information on rebuilding the valve guide. A machine shop can make one with the right materials.

If your diaphram is fine and the WG is operating correctly, why bother with taking it apart?

I've used the stock one in my 92 for 13 years with no trouble. But over the last few months I've bought a couple on ebay which I plan to use for parts. Not to highjack but one of them came with an interesting double spring setup. My stock 92 spring is on the right. Can anyone identify this double spring setup.

I went to the Tial 46 also...but there was really nothing wrong with the original...kept it in order to be able to go back to stock if someone wanted a totally stock car. Tial is generally recognized as the leader in the industry for an upgrade.

What? You wouldn't put this $100 Asian crap on your $25,000 engine?

Take a look at this ricer garbage. I bought one to compare to stock and TiAL. (The TiAL is Black, I think it was yours Chuck). The Asian WG weighed nothing and was made out of pot metal and plastic. TiAL is artwork in stainless. The only drawback to the stock wastegate is the weight. That thing is heavy.

Below also is a picture of the stock waste gate disected. Not much to it.

Looks like someone was trying some aftermarket springs, as the Tial can use two springs to acheive certain PSI's.

Are there any color markings on the springs?

A930Rocket. my eyes are getting old but I couldn't find a stamping or etching or a color code dot on either of them. The only clue is the length at 6" and the color which is a metallic bronze. But a helper spring for a boost spring sounds cool. I'll keep them both in my parts bin and break down the wastegate for parts to keep my factory one running

Thanks
