G50 donor car

I have all the big parts for my 930 build except the transmission.
new member 930 project
I want to do a G50 conversion and I have the ability to get cars from the insurance auction. My question is, what cars came with the G50? This way, I can limit my searches.

Thanks

Brendon

6K plus shipping for a trans is not that good of a deal if I have access to auctions and can pick up something for a little bit more and have a complete car to part out and recoup some of my expense.

Thanks for the reply though. What car did it come out of? =)

Understand your point. However, almost half that cost is in disassembly, machine work to the trans and input shaft, & reassembly. Not to mention the "while your in there" factor which only makes since with a trans apart.

While I appreciate the input, I have an extensive background in mechanics and auto racing, so the mechanical side shouldn't be too hard. I have a full shop of my own and a machine shop at my disposal for any modifications that may be needed. Plus, taking pride in your build and doing as much of the work on the car possible yourself is priceless.

It's my understanding that the swap is pretty straight forward with a billet case upgrade suggested.

What am I missing with in regards to "machine work to the trans and input shaft"?

Merlin.. that's cool bro.. I too do as much of my own work as possible. Restoration & mechanical background.

Bell housing needs to be cut down and input shaft shortened. G50 is longer than the 930 trans. The factory changed the torsion bar tube for 89 to accomdate the trans. I have known some to cut & swap torsion tubes rather than shorten the trans,

This is why I was considering going with a donor car instead of a kit so I could go with a complete factory set up. After re-reading your linked post, the price is quite reasonable with the LSD and work done. Although, I think the longer bell housing would be more of a benefit to weight distribution.

I am looking at this build as an investment, so cutting the torsion tube and doing some fabrication is not outside the realm of possibility. Although, my first plan was to go very radical and build a mid engine, rear drive, water cooler car with coil overs.

But once I found my engine, my build changed.

Thanks again for the input.

Brendon.
