Maybe I missed it but why did you replace the intermediate shaft gears? I hadn't anyone doing that I recall. Jim |

Hello Gents
Putting the topend together and I have some questions about the cylinder cooling tins. For those who have been down this road, please have a look at the thread I started over on the engine rebuilding forum: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-engine-rebuilding-forum/524074-cylinder-cooling-tins-can-i-get-ruling.html#post5156206 Gratuitous rebuild pics: http://asbury.smugmug.com/By-Land/Po...45_xM3k9-L.jpg http://asbury.smugmug.com/By-Land/Po...80_BhDuL-L.jpg http://asbury.smugmug.com/By-Land/Po...21_jpAyS-L.jpg |
Happy Valentine's Day dear!
Update...I bought a set of used 3.2 cylinder cooling tins to use instead of the originals. IMO this is necessary with the upgrade to fully finned cylinders. Too bad I didn't know in advance or I wouldn't have had my originals powder coated.
Yesterday I primed and painted the tins. I also spent a fair amount of time making sure that the cylinder height was even. Checking with a straight edge accross the deck, at first it appeared that one was short. I pulled the jugs up enough to put a vernier on them, measured multiple times and found them equal. Still with a straight edge one seemed lower. This was not making sense, so I bolted the heads on and put some torque on the nuts. Then I put my straight edge across the head to cam tower mating surface and everything looked perfectly even...good! The base shims must have been pushing the jugs up ever so slightly and making it look as if the cylinders were uneven. Today I made some good progress got the top-end bolted up... Sweet Jacob! In the words of Borat, Veeerrrryyy Niiiiiice!
You are kinda on the 'home stretch' at this point. BTW, just curious as to why you went with ARP head bolts vs Supertec? |

ARPs are recommended by LN Engineering for use with Nickies cylinders on their website, although I've seen that Charles Navarro has also endorsed Supertec's stud here in the Pelican forums. I bought the P&Cs through Chris Carrol at Turbokraft who uses and recommends the Nickies cylinders. He also recommended the ARP hardware, so it was convenient for me to do everything in a single transaction. |
Bit by bit, putting it together. It was over 50 degrees today. Getting antsy to drive...

Looking good Kid.

Jacob -- great work on the engine, and great photos.

meanwhile, back at the chassis...
...Been working on wiring up the new ignition system--->
Coil packs mounted and hooked up with wire harness http://asbury.smugmug.com/By-Land/Po...9_SqS8D-XL.jpg Harness follows the A/C line and then through a new hole I bored in the firewall http://asbury.smugmug.com/By-Land/Po...9_SZ9gm-XL.jpg Inside the car...electronics are mounted underneath the passenger seat. That's the Electromotive ignition brain, and an Innovate DL-32 datalogger. The datalogger will hook up with my LC-1 wideband AFR, and I will be logging RPM, Boost, AFR, and CHT, plus it has a dual axis accelerometer. http://asbury.smugmug.com/By-Land/Po...2_3xLpL-XL.jpg And finally at last the obligatory pic of me in the engine bay. If I look pissed off, its because I just spent the last 5 hours hunched over pulling wires, stripping insulation, soldering, etc in a 1 car garage with no electricity and no access to running water. My back is PISSED. http://asbury.smugmug.com/By-Land/Po...2_pSkbf-XL.jpg |
smile jacob, your almost there
