Hose nipple pulled out of lower plenum; how to fix?
Hi guys
helping a neighbor prep his pretty stock 87 Turbo for sale and I am chasing a lack of idle...it wont idle unless you keep it running with the gas. After searching around the forum and it seems most likely air/vacuum leak. So I took the plenum off the motor and this fell out, does not seem like it would of been leaking much but it is not right. Can I glue it back in? What kind of glue? JB Weld? or maybe just a metal to metal 2 part epoxy? Thoughts on this and point me to any things to check while I have it apart for the idle problem much appreciated. The o-rings all seem OK. I tried searching maybe using the wrong terms. Thanks again. ![]()

Maybe drill and tap it for a fitting.
Or have one welded on for a more permanent solution. -Adam |

JB Weld or any good 2-part epoxy rated for moderate heat.
Check all vac hoses, AAR/AAV valves. Assure both sides of distributor vac advance pot are leak free (Mity-vac). Look carefully at phenolic blocks, assure they are not craked, replace the gaskets, top and bottom. Good luck.

This is simply an interference fit - it loosens with heat, vibration and time - JB Weld works great for this repair/modification (and is a very common practice) . . .

The factory glued them in originally. For repair I would use Red Loctite 262. This Loctite grade needs to be heated with a torch to come loose again, so be sure you have the fitting pointed in the correct direction before it dries. With that thing loose you would have one hell of a vacuum leak.

Wow this place is better than the regular 911 forum. Thanks so much.
Sounds like good practice to replace the orange o-rings while it is apart. I will have the neighbor buy a mity vac. I noticed one of the vac lines on the distributor had a split, I was able to cut the split part off. maybe that was the problem. Any way I will report back as I go.

Yah it was still in there but it just pulled out when I went to pull the hose off. I would think a vacuum leak there would cause a high idle?
OK so it was glued from the factory there was the remenants of glue there but I figured it was fixed once before. Good point on the direction of the nipple there is not a lot of room for error in that (or any really) area of the 930 engine bay.
