Air flow plate?

I believe that is what the part is called. It is in the intake and helps meter the fuel based on the airflow.

I have a 77 Turbo where the circular plate was some how bent by the previous owner or the garage where he had his work done. Is that plate unique to the turbo, or can a plate from another engine with CIS be swapped to replace it?

I really appreciate the help.

I'm going to "assume" they're the same, but until confirmed by someone in the know, you will also want to make sure the control arm itself wasn't damaged to where it no longer moves freely. That would cause some real fueling issues. That's a strange place to see that type of damage IMO.

The 930 air meter plate pulls down when open, the SC plate pulls up when open so function and housing are different. Part number may be the same for 928 or other make V8 engines. These housings show up in the classifieds occasionally. I would replace the entire assembly if yours is damaged as Mark stated.

The engine is actually being built by John Truman in OH, he came very highly recommended. He said that the intake looked good, except for specifically the plate on the end of the arm. Can the plates be taken off separately and replaced?

If the stock plate isn't available, isn't there a rounded edge plate available for CIS. Not sure if it was available for NA, Turbo or both cars (or if it even worked).

Our host lists the plate: OEM-91111094303 this is a superseded part number - the part number from the Porsche Pet for the plate is 91111094301 . . . about $75.00 (I just looked it up). . .

I just realized that the part number I gave you is from the 1987-89 PET (and the 1976-77 PET does not work) . . . so you would have to clarify with Pelican if you were to place an order . . .

Can you post a picture of the plate?

Preferable as installed.

It the motor modified in any other ways like a larger turbo, cams...

I believe all 930 plates were all flat. There was an aftermarket plate that added mass to the top of the metering plate.

There is nothing that I can think of that might accidentally bend the metering plate.

Bending the plate might have been an attempt to change the AFR curve of the motor. This might lean the motor at low rpms (which could be somewhat compensated by readjusting CO) and richen the motor at higher rpms if done correctly. It may even extend the range of the metering plate for more fuel up top.

I would not through the plat away just in-case. Someone may have been very smart in how CIS works.

This is actually something I had thought of trying if I get yet another turbo.

There are basically two critical features to the plate Dia. and weight. The plate is supposed to be the same as old Mercedes 6.3 & 6.9. The plate is held in place by a single bolt on the center and is easily removed. You could try placing the plate between two steel sheets, heat it, and then press it in an arbor press and hold until it cools. You could simply cut one out of a similar material as long as you hold the Dia. and weight the same. If your not in a big hurry I will have one available in a month or so.

Brian,

Chris Carroll has my CIS right now. He is going to use it on the 930 DWUR test car and will be doing some dyno tuning. I even sent the mystery velocity cone with it. Chris was the first to ever use one and they even made the one I have. If we see any advantages with the cone we'll start making some. Should be interesting. I'll be talking to him next week then I'll have a better feel for when I'll have it back. I'll keep you posted.

We'll be killing two birds with one stone here. We have the cone on as well as
Steve Weiners fuel head air mod. Chris is running tests on the same car with the stock Euro CIS and then mine. Should really be cool and dispel any myths out there about some of these mods and gizmo's. FUN !!!!

Talked with Chris today and he will be running a test with the cone and then
switch to the stock metering plate to get dyno results with one metering plate and the coned metering plate. He is supposed to do the testing later this week.

Excellent.

I do not expect it to do anything with potental air flow. The expecation is it will change the AFR curve and migh get a little more fuel up top from extending the metering arm due to the increased windage above the plate line.

If you have the Rennsport mod, I do not know how this might effect the test as that is also suposed to effectively advance the metering pin for more fuel up top.

Have my fingers crossed.

That single bolt is not easily removed. You have to heat it underneath to loosen the locking agent. Otherwise it will snap right in half.
