1973 RS ebay SCAM ALERT

Okay, I saw a sweet black RS on ebay and contacted the guy since the reserve price was suspiciously low and the ad had no details. The reply was this:

Hi
Thank you for your interest in my 1973 Porsch 911 RS. The car is located in Goodview VA 24095. It has all the papers (complete). This was my son's car who passed away 6 months ago, it only brings me bad memories. I want this transaction to be smooth as I am caught in the middle of some very important events and I don't have much time at my disposal. The car is in perfect condition, no scratches, no special marks, no need for additional repairs what so ever, no leaks, rust free. My son has had the car restored. Original rebuilt RS engine. The transmission was also rebuilt and the stock 901 tranny shifts as smooth as a hot knife cutting through butter. The stock narrow body panels have been replaced with light weight metal flares and the front end removed and replaced with a light weight fiberglass RS front. With all the body work done and the duck tail added, the car was now given a fresh black paint job, color sanded and buffed to a mirror like finish. the head-liner, dash, RS door panels, carpeting and racing seats along with all other necessary pieces were added. After the interior was finished, the glass was put back in the car (of course a new front windshield and weather striping) was added as well. the wheels and tires and the Fuch wheels were sent in to be restored and polished to a chrome like finish including the center caps and aluminum lug nuts. the rims were then fitted with new Bridgestone tires and the wheels were put back on the car. Overall a great car ready to be yours. Just 24k miles since restoration. It has a clear title.
The price is $9,200 including shipping costs anywhere in the continental US. There are no other costs regarding this transaction. Regarding payment I am aware of the eBay's rules and we will use Vehicle Purchase Protection Program which will hold the payment until you receive the car. If you are interested please provide me the following informations necessary to make a decision:
-full name
-any negative feedback and if so .... for what reason .
If I receive the requested information you will be informed by eBay during the next hours with details about your purchase.

Thank you,
Mike Donner

I emailed him just now to tell him that I am in Virginia and ready to see the car in person....I am not holding my breath for his reply, LOL.

Just another scammer, IMO.

UPDATE: EBAY AD HAS VANISHED

So you don't know if it is a scam?

As of 9:00 eastern time this morning the car apparently was still available enough for him to send that email.

Defiantly not a real rs, looks like a nicely done knockoff. From the description it doesn't sound like he was saying it was a real rs. Did anyone ask for the vin? If it's as nice as it looks it's defiantly worth the price. If the body panels were really changed ti lightweight and the engine built to spec. it's got 20-30 grand of blood sweat and tears in it.

These statements could be correct to the best of his knowledge.

It looks to be an RS clone based on a 70-71 911T. That would make the 901 trans and what looks to be a 2.2L carbureted 911T motor correct. Well done RS clones are acceptable however ground up, price is no object clone projects out of the best shops never come within half the price of true RSs.

If the car was always an East Coast car there could be very serious structural rust in the pan and under that shiny paint. Still everything Longhood was moving up the price range before the economy went bad and once it returns you will see that trend return. $10K is not bad IF the car is structurally safe and the engine runs. If there is little rust that is a $20K car in 3 years.

Some will disagree with me but I only consider the narrow span of 1970-73 to be desirable with the 72 and 73 the choice Longhoods. These cars are quickly becoming the 356s of 20 years ago, still affordable as drivers.... but barely. 35-40 years takes its toll.

Some of you are missing the point. This guy DOES NOT OWN THIS CAR.

I remember seeing it a couple months ago for sale for real on EBAY and the reserve did not even trigger over 20 grand.

THIS IS A SCAM LIKE THE TITLE SAYS.

Dave, if you can't afford the $9200 move aside and let someone else buy the car!!
On a serious note,, how do these guys expect to get away with this ? Do the cops not chase these guys down ?
