4 speed tranny rebuild-NEED GOOD SHOP
I am looking to get my 930 4 speed rebuilt and regeared for 2,3 and 4th gears to lower the ratios in search of more performance. I have gear ratios plotted for my target top speed already, but now the hard part of finding a good rebuilder begins.
Can anyone suggest a high quality shop to do the job? I have looked thru Pano and seen lots of places advertising but I wanted to tap into the resources of experienced people on the forum to get solid recommendations. If you could give some pricing info on what I should expect as a quote for the job is appreciated too. Any info appreciated, -Fred

Speedwerks did my 915 years ago and did a great job.
Other than that, maybe Gary Fairbanks in Norwalk, CT. |

I would recommend GBOX. PORSCHE RACING AND STREET GEARBOXES-GBOX Transmission
I got a quote from them on getting mine re-built with new 2nd, 3rd, and 4th(shorter gears) and with shipping back and forth it was right around $3K. Great guys for sure.

Howdy fredmeister,
Here's the webpage on this subject I did for Pat Williams Racing. That's my diff housing in the scrolling images with the clutch cable boss knocked off by the PO in France back in the 70's. Some of the other pics are of RUF's for which he has done many (can be fragile if abused). He did short 2-4 on mine using Gard back when I did EFI and a package motor 6 years ago and it was transformational. I highly recommend this mod. As a 9/76 prod car, and apparently a transitional, I had a diabolical posi engagement issue noone could diagnose that had put me off the road in the wet on two occassions. He figured that out (bevel washers incorrectly assembled at the factory) and then re-stacked for different lock rate. If you lived in Memphis, he might even make a house call: unfortunately the local track closed a month or so ago, as this is a daily driver for 26 years now, no longer had the need for that short fourth. Pulled my engine out and down and he came by, put my stock .65 back in along with some precautionary synchro's, made a few adjustments and I had it all back in and driving to work 2 days later.

Fred, Since you're on the east coast I would try Gary Fairbanks up in CT. Tranny's are his specialty & he's been at it forever!
Locally, try Charlie Murphy over at Intersport in Tyson's Corner/ McLean. Paul

Thanks for the responses so far guys.
I am gonna start making calls soon. If I could avoid shipping that would save a lot of trouble and expense too in reagrds to my final choice.
