Turbo'g a C2 964?
I have seen a far number of 3.2 Carrera's turbo'd.

Not on a 91-93 ,but if you ck. you will see that Eddie Bellow add a couple to his 94 C2 and looks like it worked out pertty good for him.

It looks like he has twin tubos from the two intakes on his body and I think I read that was the case some where.
However, from his inter-cooler style it looks like a single turbo. If not, I do not know how he plumbs the pressure side of the turbos into one and feed it to the left side to enter the IC. I am thinking that when RUF did his he might have put the turbo in a different place more in the right rear wheel well. |

Don't know what he is nrunning now ,but last time I saw and talked to him one of his normal turbos had failed and he was running two Gt 35s mounted behind rear bumper and custom looked like 3.5 -s.s.zorks through rear bumper. I was supprised how quiet it is.

7.0:1 > 11.3:1 > 7.0:1

The C2 non-turbo motor is 11.3:1 compression ratio which dose not lend itselt to boost application. Those who boost by either turbo or super charger quickly find out they are running on the ragged edge of detonation with only a few psi boost.
A 930 engine by comparison is 7.0:1 (8.5:1 seems like the common limit for Porsche turbos) You really need to install different pistons to properly do a turbo conversion on the 3.6. I myself am considering doing this right now to a 993. |

Yes, I was thinking J&E's. However, the stock pistons can be machined down to near 8.5 from what I remember.
I am more concerned about plumbing around the distributor with a single turbo install. I do not want to turn this into an Eddy Bello post but from looking at a vid it looks like he has a Zork exiting to each side of the lic plate and the turbos on the outside of that. The right corner turbo seems to loop the supply around the back of the intercooler and to the left side intercooler tank from behind it. The left turbo looks to come up from below the tank. You can see the in-side of the IC has an interesting shape tank to accommodate both in's. The IC exits on the right side. I suspect the two holes in front of the rear wheels go over the tire and turn into the turbos. Much different than a 993TT. Fun stuff. |

I realize that some people may look at it as cutting corners but... Why don't you see those wanting to turbo running a thicker head gasket to lower compression. Do stock pistons not hold regardless ??? Not worth it while the head is off ect ?? I've seen plenty of cars do this and make nice power.

There is a narrow window as to how much you can streatch a motor or the chain length becomes an issue and you start looking at custom tensioners.
The other thing is that leaves you with high dome pistons which is not the best for detonation as the flam paths still has to bend over the dome I suspect. |

Squish or quench area is the answer.
Sure a lot of imports do it as a cheap solution and it works fairly well on wedge heads esp if combustion chamber was set up for low boost to start. If you think of how the squish area would be shaped on a hemi with a domed piston that didn't come flush with head surface, you'll visualize a inefficient shape. A low compression "chamber" with a bad designed quench area can still be VERY prone to detonation.

Guys do play with some 965 shims sometimes to get a little play. Reference Protomotive to a shop that has done this successfully. Always best to run optimum piston obviously.
