Front Wheel Shimmy
Just wondering what an initial thought would be to cause a shimmy ( shake) from the front end that transmits through the steering wheel when travelling over
bumps in the road. Have a 1988 turbo 930 cab. with 41,000 miles. Would this be from front bearings needing adjustment, ball joints need replacement, or what symptoms do front struts give when they need replacement. Thanks in advance for your help |

Suspension been lowered? Bump steer causing this?

Yes suspension was lowered buy the previous owner, and since then I have had it in at the alignment for checking of the geometry and it came back with no problems.
Just don't know what bad struts, ball joints or a bad adjusted front wheel bearing would feel like......... Any other ideas???? |

You have to jack the front wheels up in the air and wiggle all the suspension connections with your hands and a pry bar to find what is loose.
Tie rods, ball joints, control arm bushings, steering rack bolts and the rack itself, wheel bearings all loosen up eventually and can cause shimmy Worn shocks, bad front end alignment, and unbalanced wheels doesn't help either. Your mileage sounds low but unless you've owned the car since new you have no idea if someone changed the speedometer over the years... it slides right out of the dash. |
