930 twin turbo muffler ideas
Going to go with Twins on my 930. Going to use 993 NA heat exchangers. anybody have any Ideas about ways to muffle this thing. I do drive this thing quite a bit so I think twin zorks might get a bit old. (Or i'm I getting old?) pictures please. Thanks guys.

Yea, you are getting old!! HAHA I wish I could help you, but if I would have gone with twins on my build...I would have went straight Zork... just like I have with the single turbo....

Why not just use a factory 993TT exhaust w/ test pipe to omit the cats?

From what I have been told the oil tank is in the way and I don't want to move it.

You might eleminate those tight 180* bends by plugging the muffler in after the 90* and exiting the tailpipes just behind the rear tires.

This dose not solve the turbo fouling the oil tank. Saw one pic where they notched to tank.
Muffler could be something like this or stacked straight through mufflers. One high, one low. Last edited by 911st; 04-20-2010 at 09:08 AM.. |

N/A 993 exchangers will put the turbos close together out back, not on the sides of the engine.
If you mount the turbo outlets facing outboard then the exhaust can loop back 180* on both sides into short mufflers and exit with GT3 style tailpipes in the center of the rear. Kind of like the above picture.

The turbos will be fairly close together not clear of to the sides.

Missed it was NA and not 993TT exchangers.
Why go twin turbo then? These work very well for a single turbo set up with Brian/Ben's Y pipe. I think the 993NA's put the turbos very close together. Maybe to close to fit the exhaust between them as a Zork or a 180 but not sure. Think I have seen twin's done this way but the turbo intakes faced each other and adjoined in the center and became a single charge tube went up to the intercooler (with two elbo's). The turbos exited outward on both sides which sould give room for a short muffler on each before exiting out the sides. I think Gemballa or someone did this many years ago. |

I'm. Using twins because I have two turbonetics ball bearing turbos couldn't pass on the price. Oh! And there is the that's cool factor.

A light weight stainless turbine housing Gt35 or such from Tial is pretty cool to.

930 Twin Turbo muffler
Hi,
Fitting a 993 Twin Turbo header system with turbochargers into a 930 chassis is really simple if you modify the stock oil tank. And this is easier than it sounds: * tilt the tank outwards a few degrees, about 1.5" farther out at the base * change the outlet port to the front edge of the tank -- a time consuming but straight-forward cut & weld job to modify We further modifying the pickup tube and add internal baffling to help pickup oil liquid from the bottom and never run dry under cornering. Maybe overkill, but the old "while we're there..." applies. We can do yours if you so need. Before modifying: ![]() After modifying: ![]() ![]() ![]()

And with the turbos side-mounted, you can run a simple 2.5" dual in / dual out "X" muffler and the outlets will come out in the stock left & right locations. It's quiet enough for daily use, and flows plenty of exhaust -- 657awhp enough airflow for you?
