Shipping a turbo tail
I need to ship a 77 turbo tail. I've done some investigating and I know its not going to be cheap.
Can anybody else who has done this give me some ideas about packing and shipping? Is it better to take it apart and pack several boxes? The folks I have talked to all say they will have to build a box due to the size of the tail.

I shipped a Carrera tail and lid a while back. Took them apart and customized a box to fit them. Wasn't terrible to ship via Fed Ex. I think it was under $60.00 with home p/u.

Did you build a box out of cardboard and use a bunch of bubble wrap or similar packing material? It seems like if you build a box that basically the packing material is the key to protecting the tail and the box is just a way to label it and pick it up.
or did i miss something here?

I suggest you get a pallet, strap it down, then put a cardboard box around it. Pallets are cheap like $2 each
I have an unlimited supply from a company I work with in Fremont let me know if you need any

Thanks for the offer 9dreizig, it only weighs 30 lbs, I think a pallet might be overkill.
I guess building my own box is the answer. None of the box shops I contacted had one even close to big enough.

Check with a body shop. They often receive parts likebumper covers or quarter panels in boxes that could be used.
Second Greyhound. They are reasonable and ship lightweight, large items. Be sure to use lots of packing. |

I have bought and received maybe 10 tails in the last year and shipped them through Greyhound with no troubles.
I was just shipped 2 NOS factory slantnose fenders using Greyhound and they arrived here in perfect condition.
