Rotella Oil's Would you use?
Hi:
Just spent half my life talking about oil. I always find asking others if they use of or would think of using a "out of the norm" product. Well here it is. Rotella oils (Shell). I was told by a mechanic friend that this oil is common among vintage car owners/racers. Well now they have a synthetic oil Rotella T6. Does anyone use this, does anyone know the level of Zinc in it, or has the formulation changed so it is not an option. Thing is, it is fairly inexpensive here and i can get it but the pale. Rotella: 15-40 18.9L, $65.99 Rotella Synthetic T6: 5-40, 4L, $16.49 Is a Transport truck oil really safe to use on a 930? |

I used that 5w40 RotellaT in my 150k //S8, love the weight, high detergent content, and insane pricepoint (WalMart used to stock 5gal for like $17 or something, not lately tho which blows and has me using Castrol Syntec).
But when I went to my local oil distributor to buy the recommended Brad Penn 10/30 for the 930, the head of the dist looked @ me quizzically when I noted my use of diesel truck oil in my hi-po car (360hp 11:1 compression 7200red). I don't think he "got it". I'd run HD oil in previous hi-po cars with good result. I've not gotten that warm fuzzy feeling yet to run it in the 930 tho - sticking with the Penn despite the pricepoint. HTH, good luck. |

A lot of good oil out there if you get off the beaten track...there are some specialty synthetics for air cooled Harleys that have great numbers.

It's in mine now. Great oil. Great price. Performs as good as stuff triple the price. Still has all the good additives in it.

I also run the Rotella in my car. Just make sure it's the older formulation stuff. See the first paragraph of this thread:
