got the cross member back from WEVO today dropped it off at the powder coater at noon he will have it done for me this evening. Same day service!!! while i am waiting for the corssmember got the clutch installed mounted the tranny to the engine, checked the fork lines up with the throwout bearing. All thats left are putting the engine tins back on and cleaning all the oil off the POS magnacore wires. Tomorrow the silicone vacuum lines show up so looks like it's going back in on thursday!!!

OK it's ready to go back in tomorrow. New rocker arm shafts(yes thats where the mystery leak was). powder coated the fan and shroud and rear engine tin. Wevo tranmission mount. Kep clutch, new headers. I'll put the new headers on it once it's back in the car. Since at the moment it's sitting on them. I also removed that fuel line for the smog motors that robs fuel flow and plugged it. now maybe it will not run out of gas on full boost about 5k rpm. I also put the MSD blaster coil back on I replaced the POS magnacore coil wire with a MSD coil wire, so we'll see how that works out. I need to bite the bullet one of these days and replace these magnacore wires I just hate them.

similiar job
I am considering a similiar project, but would also include a de-coke with valve grind and maybe a re-ring. While the engine is out it seems to make sense. Those minor oil leaks can be cleaned up at the same time.

i just did the heads last july. next year when it comes out it will be for EFI.

Well it's back in should be running now but spent the rest of the day screwing with the headers. pulled the old ones. The new ones didnt fit "Schnell brand", the crossover pipe is about 1/2 inch too long. So I will have to shorten that. The heater up pipe on the passenger side also touches the oil cooler. So I will have to relieve that, and found another oil leak. the turbo scavenge pump camshaft seal. So i will have to get a seal for it, getting close though i plan on driving it sunday. I was hoping to drive it to work tomorrow but no such luck. I know if i had spent 2k for some fab speed or Rarly's headers i wouldnt have had fitment problems, but these were 790.00 and the last set was bent up on all the speed bumps around here. I cant see spending that much on something that will be bent up and scratched in a couple months.

looking good Ken

I've had 2 clients hit the turbo oil tanks on speed bumps and had a stream of oil follow them home. |
Ken, looks really nice, Love the shroud/fan. Did you do the valve covers as well?

I know it is too late to tell you this now but my system is component based; any single damaged part such as a primary tube, collector, or heat exchanger can be replaced plug and play. May be a solution for you next time if this is a chronic problem. You also get a few more horsies and some cool sounds. ;)

Well have the headers bolted up the turbo flange is a little different than the other set of headers. So I will be modifying the support bracket again tomorrow. I had to make changes when i put the k-27 hfs on it with the last set of headers. so I am not sure if it's this pair thats off or the other pair but i'll make it work. Went to a classic ar show down at Ocean reef today they had a Tesla there was red with a carbon fiber targa bar. Hmmmmmmmmmm wonder how mine would look like that instead of glossy black?

Ken looking good!!
I met you in Palm beach at the track for the super car weekend. Im from S.Miami and have a Blk 88-930. When I rebuilt my engine 18 months ago I also powdercoated all my tins, fan and housing! after running a bit had a bad miss and after 2 days checking things it ended up being a bad ground on the coil. Be sure on the bottom of the fan shroud to sand the paint around the locator pin! Or make a ground wire from the coil nut to a good ground!! Good Job! Clark |
oh ok thanks i hadnt thought of that!
|
ok Headers are in i cut the turbo bracket, bolted everything up then sliced a section out if the bracket then welded it all back up. Oil lines hooked up clutch cable. Still have to hook up the axles and everything on the top. Tuesday i'll tackle the oil leaking on the scavenge pump.
|
I like to test the engine by running it for a minute ior two before hooking up parts like axles, etc. This way, if I have to drop it, there's less work.
|
Good point I was thinking of doing that to figure out where my oil leak is. The air pump pulley housing was full of oil so it's either the seal on the pump or the cam shaft. One thing i always do is run it before replacing the rear bumper to check for exhaust leaks around the turbo etc.
|
Well i got it all back together oil in it and it wouldnt start. I connected the wiring tonight in the dark before going to work. So I will look at it again in the daylight and check what i didnt hook up. possibly will swap back to the stock coil I tried the MSD coil again, that might be the probelm as mentioned abave.
|
Looks great. I'll be tearing my motor down shortly and will defiinitely have to do some powdercoating here and there after seeing that!
