Tanner Foust picks the 930

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno - Thursday, December 16, 2010 - Video - NBC.com

Jay Leno's Tonight show, Dec 16th. Top Gear (American version) dudes were guests. Their bit starts at 29:50 or so. But skip to the magic moment at 34 minutes where Jay asked the three Top Gear guys what car they'd pick if they could only have one...and Tanner Foust proclaimed himself a 930 Turbo kinda guy.

It seems like an unlikely car to drift, although with that statement I gained a little more respect for him. I am sure he wouldn't be using the 930 for a drift car and more for the personal choice.

Good choice. Good for Tanner!

Additionally - The Porsche 930 is a car of desire. You either want this car, you have driven it once or twice and,,, you desire it, and/or you have owned or own one. It is a car that makes an impression on a person so much that when a statement like the one he made about it is made,, it comes from the heart, has emotions behind it and usually stands true. So again,, I applaud him for having that desire!

The 930 and the Subaru WRX STI are the only to "desirable" cars for me - - and, they were "both" mentioned... What are the chances??

I often thought about obtaining an WRX STI Wagon... Just can't decide if I should keep the 930 and have both...

Several years ago I particpated in one of the arrive and drive events (I hink this one was with Subaru), and John Paul Jr was one of the instructors. In a separte conversation with him and a few others, we talked about his 935 racing days. In a comment he said "I don't know what the big deal is with drifting. To go fast in the 935, that is how they had to be driven".

Yes, but there is clear differentiation between the two; deliberate drifting and a power slide.

Additionally; a wagon, saloon, estate car, hatchback, (RS6 Avant, STi) etc., etc., or anything over and above a two door coupe is not technically a sports car and never remotely considered such by the purest.

You can stuff any engine into any vehicle and tweak the suspension, it will never make it a "sports car".

To each is own...

You know, when I purchased the 930 2.5 yrs ago I had a 6-mo. old son. Now, he's a 3-yr old plus I have a 1-yr old son and 2-week old daughter... Suffice to say, things have changed... One of those things, possibly, is my ideal 2nd car...

I have an FX-4 which is my daily driver. BTW: That's not my house...
...

But, am feeling the need to have something small and fast that I can work on [like the 930] and also something I can put my little one's in and take on a "Spirited Sunday drive" like the WRX [with Boxter Engine, BTW]...

I just don't feel comfortable putting them in the back seat of the 930... It's just too tight, and if something happened and I had to get them out of there -- well, you get the point...

I only have room [in the garage] for 3-cars. The Wife's [#1] and my two. And, getting a 3rd car for myself is not an option... So, this is my car dilema

You put a Boxster engine in your Subaru? That is funny considering people put Subaru flat-4s and flat-6s into 911s or 914s. Or did you mean "boxer"?

Thats awesome that he chose the 930, and Leno's like "Whoa, nice!" There's hope for the world folks!

I also liked the idea of the subaru sti wagon, until I drove one. An evo9 it aint, utterly uninspiring, I think a modern corolla is more fun to drive fast.

Ultimate utility car for me would be the evo 9 wagon.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX Wagon

Or maybe that new cadillac wagon.

You're right, I meant "boxer" - - cuz, the WRX has a flat-4 in it...
