Newbie to Forum needs help??
Hi people, Im new to this forum but not to Porsche cars... well I thought till now. Not to sound like a moron, and not more "on" than off. But, perhaps someone can help me with this issue. I have a '77 930 trans-axle I am about to list for sale along with a few other Porsche parts and 911 rollers. This is my brothers trans we are going to sell as rebuilt by Motor Meister's three or four years ago with about 200 miles since. Now, as far as Roy can remember the thing had an LSD vs an open. We really don't want to take it apart any further prior to sale other than the inspection plate and side as pictured, we need to know if it's an LSD or open. I am going to try and post a few pic's if someone can help we would greatly appreciate it.

You won't get any bites here if (and you should) you mention MM as the rebuilder.
They do not have a stellar reputation with Porshce folk in the know.

You would get more money taking it apart and selling it as parts because buyers can see exactly how bad the parts have been motormeistered.

If it is an open diff. when you turn the output, the other one will counter-rotate. If it has LSD it will turn along the other i.e. back or forth.
Probably not what you wanted to hear, but listen to the two above posts... Jesper |

In order for us to tell you if it's LSD lift the diff carrier out with your hands and post a picture of it's side. You will be able to set it back in place without any issue.
edit: You will need to remove to bolt and flange on the other side first. Last edited by Jim2; 11-27-2010 at 01:24 PM.. |

Thanks a Million guys for all your help. I do appreciate the time and effort. Common knowledge hasn't hit our shop (home) as of yet as we do all our own work except for the transaxles. We know and are in the "Know" now.
