time for the once a year engine pull

OK it's been a year and a half. About due for a clutch. it had an imagine auto clutch and was starting to slip pretty bad. I adjusted it about once a month but latly it would start slipping a week after it had been adjusted so I thought it was about time for a new one. Going to post pictures this time. Also fixing a few oil leaks adjusting the valves replacing the undersized rocker arm shafts. and then when it's back in the car i have new headers for it.

I gotta ask, what are you jacking your car off of in the first picture and how did you access those four bumper bolts in the second picture? I always pulled the entire bumper mount, but it's a pain in the ass.

The new one is a Kep stage two with a kevlar on one side and normal friction material on the other. the flywheel is at the machine shop today being re-cut. Bolts for the rear bumper are under the rubber strips just pull the little plugs out then loosen the strip with a 5mm allen wrench.

Wow, I feel like an idiot now Learn something new everyday, this should make life easier in the future. What did you jack up the rear of the car on? I'm always nervous about jack positioning on the 930.

our sponser has an engine adapter for a floor jack. It balances the engine and tranny. just run it up under the engine and jack it up.

Ur gonna LUUV the KEP2 ken. smooth as silk and (i hope) virtually indestructible based on what everyone says here. I have fallen in love with my car all over again now that i got a smooth clutch.

I heard varying opinions on 'reusing' and resurfacing the flywheel. Mine had a lot of cracks in her, and i was worried that these were more than just superficial, so i put a new flywheel in. Did yours have any??

i had a spare flywheel the one that i pulled out of the car last time i did the clutch. SPEC to an imagine auto clutch. i got it remachined about a month ago while i was collecting all the parts and it was cracked even after being machined. So the one i pulled out wasnt cracked and I will pick it up from the machine shop in about an hour. I noticed you last clutch was a semi metalic. my spec was like that semi metalic i think all of them get so hot they crack the flywheels. and of course the one of the pilot bearing screw has a stripped head, looks like it's time to get out the dremil tool to cut the head off. i have the new screws already fortunaltely.

dropped everything off for powder coating today he will have it back friday. You know Miami is actually a pretty good place to get things done. I dropped the flywheel off for machining just down the street. Got it back for $40.00 and in only 3 hours. Powder coating the same thing. The guy at WEVO on the other hand told me his powder coater is unreliable and sometimes takes a couple weeks to get things back. I was worried when i took the parts to the powdercoater, afraid to tell him what the parts were from figuring when he heard the P word the price would double. Turns out he knew excatly what it was from when i showed him then proceeded to tell me about his 928. He gave me a VERY reasonable price for everything.

Well I pulled the valve covers on the left side of the engine expecting to see rocker arm shafts moved and nothing. So now i have no idea where the oil leak on that side of the engine is coming from. if you look at the picture above you see the turbo oil pump coated with oil. but i have cleaned it off numerous times and replaced all the gaskets and that wasnt it. wasnt the end gaket where the camshaft exits the cam towers. there isnt oil all over the bottom like if the cam towers were leaking. WTF? Oh and the wires going to the coil totally cooked insulation is all melted off. Need to repair that part of the wiring harness.

Well everything is torn apart now it's time to start cleaning parts and putting every thing back together. My transmission cross member will be back from WEVO on tuesday. So the powdercoater should be done with it thursday. hopefull put it back in friday for some weekend fun. I'll post more picks when i get the other parts nack from the powder coater monday. Also all of the vacuum hoses attached to the distributor were melted. I have some pretty blue ones with blue firebraid coming to replace all of that. Still no idea where the oil was coming from anyone have any ideas?

Nothing like new powder coated parts!

Did you grind back the fan blade ends a hair so the powder coating won't rub the housing?
Should have mentioned that earlier...

Yes i had him mask the ends, then when i got it back i sanded the ends to make sure there was propper clearance. Installed the fan in the shroud first to make sure nothing rubs. Tomorrow it's new rocker arm shafts and adjust the valves. Then put the clutch together and tranny back on then do some clean up. Have to wait until i get my crossmember back and have it powder coated before i put the engine back in. I still have no idea where the oil was leaking from.

Ken

Is that a Rennline engine crossarm? If not already supported/built up on the ends, you might want to think about that before powder coating. That will keep the ends from breaking off.

The cross bar is a rennline stainless one. it's gusseted on the ends. not powder coating that.
