Dropped nut.

Recently picked up this 86 930 that had been running until the p.o. reportedly had dropped a nut back near the smog pump. I didn't think that was such a big deal, I mean, how could a little nut bring down this beast? Well............

I didn't know that the nut fell off an aircraft carrier, nor do I know how long it had been running, but obviously long enough to demolish the pulley.

but wait there's more.......I then discovered that the cam shaft doesn't rotate with the engine. Hopefully just the pin sheared off but now I have to worry about bent valves.
More digging tomorrow.

Saw the add for it for a long time and wondered about the car.

Hope all goes well.

I dropped a nut once, it will be 3 - 4 months before you heal completely.

Cole that would be funny except it is true. I hope you fare well my cam nut came loose and the pin that holds the sprocket in place came out I still haven't found that its in the motor somewhere but the jist is the cam defaulted to a position that had all the valves almost closed so I had no valve damage, good luck.

That was the car from las vegas correct? I also considered buying this car, but was just too far away, and too many unknowns for me.

Las Vegas.....yes
Salvage title......yes
I flew out and thought it looked pretty good so I bought it. It's a pretty clean, unmolested car w/ an LSD tranny and evidently had a recent engine overhaul prior to the damage. I've been all over the car and can't find any obvious repair except the drivers door was replaced. Anyway, I just spent tonight pulling the engine out of my 78 and hope to get it in the 86 tomorrow. Sure was a heck of a lot easier to drop the engine out of the 78.

So why are you stealing from the 78 on behalf of the 86?

The Raptor is awesome, I've got 20,000 miles on it already.

The 78 is just a beater, I was looking for a roller to put the engine into then sell the body, but now that I have two drivetrains I may make it into.............
or this.........

Are you sure the cam is actually not turning and not just the air pump pulley not turning?

Got the engine in and bolted up. I'm glad that's over with, I've spent more time on my back than Paris Hilton on a wild weekend. I need to look into the electronic/electrical compatibility, although I did switch over the Permatune.

Here it is almost in.

Actually if i remember the video correctly she was on her hands and knees most of the time lol. On a more serious note anyone know what the part number is to just ditch the air pump pulley housing, and bolt the pump directly to the cam tower? I just repaired my second leak from this thing this time it was the housing seal last time it was the three hole gasket. I also sealed the holes up with JB weld when I put my engine together the first time to prevent exactly this same thing from happening. I was worried about something falling in there.

Ken,
It's not that simple. The LH 930 camshaft has a drive boss that fits inside the pulley, so you would need to remove the boss so that it looked like the SC cam below. Then you'd have to drill the end of the camshaft to take two roll-pins to drive the pump.
Only then would the pump bolt up direct to the camshaft housing.
