1987 930 Turbo sputter on acceleration below 4000 rpms..HELP
My 1987 911 Turbo has a K-27 turbo, Billy Boat exhaust and Andial fuel enrichment system. When I accelerate in 3rd or 4th gear below 4000 rpms AND with .5 bar boost or greater the engine "sputters" and does not accelerate hard or smooth. When the boost is below .5 bar upto 4000 rpms or when the rpms are above 4000 and full boost (1 bar) it is smooth and accelerates appropriately. ANY IDEAS?? I have disconnected the Andial and it acts the same. I am not sure it is related to the colder weather as I am in CT. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks....

Hmmm...weird. My first inclination would be to look for a bad IC O'ring. Under boost it may be deforming enough to leak the boost pressure out, causing an overly rich condition. But it's strange that all seems find at full boost over 4000 rpms.

Thanks Mark. As a matter of fact I just had the Inter Cooler off tonite and found a 1" piece cut out of one Oring. Haven't run the car yet....maybe tomorrow. I was looking at the distributor.....the vacuum pot and it's mechanism was a bit sticky.....hopefully that will help too. Will post results if they are better. Thanks

Gorgeous car...maybe just my personal preference, but I believe the best looking 911's are white/GP White with black trim...
Sorry I can't help with the tech problem...maybe someone else already solved it here.

Nice looking slant.
What RPM does your engine reach full boost in 3rd and 4th gear? I suspect a new O-ring will fix the problem.

Depends on which K27 is installed.

Took her out for a ride after replacing the IC Oring and had to adjust the CIS unit to make it leaner to run correct. The sputter is still there and feels like a bit less power before the boost starts....I think I need to set the ignition timing. Any tips on how and what the specs are?? I assume a timing light ....a "Z1" on the pulley is TDC but is there a mark for the set point.....it's a stock pulley. Thanks....the work continues...

Check your timing, advance etc. Also check your warm up regulator and the mixture. And one thing I rememebr, if you are running the stock intake assembly with the OEM bypass valve assembly, it that the bypass piston (Which connects the intake and pressure side of the turbo and manifold under the intercooler, the cushioning gaskets inside the bypass bore fail, they crumble and vanish, thats not so much the problem, what happens is the picton now slams against the cap plate on both ends of the bore and eventually can crack it and you can have a vacuum leak. Its rare , but I had a couple back in the day that I had traced to a fracutred end cap on that assembly. you know those gaskets are gone when you tap the throttle and hear a click noise from the bypass. just check it

I am replacing some seals as well. I did a search on pelican and it seems that this part 999 701 469 40(o ring) goes on the throttle body side of the intercooler and that you also put one up against the throttle body housing to act as a cushion when the intercooler slides over it? can anyone verify that
