965 3.3 to 3.6T engine swap almost done!

No reason to bother the "board" with petty questions, but a few pictures are always fun right??

My project: Replace my 255k 3.3 engine with a rebuilt 3.6T engine.

Turbokraft-massaged factory '94 3.6T engine, tested compression/leakdown.
-heads: Ported & polished factory, factory valves, twin-plugged for future EFI expansion (possibly).
-Shortblock: stock, resealed, rebuilt.
-Intake: P&P to heads, Extrude honed, TurboKraft Billet injector blocks/phenolic spacers, gaskets.
-New injectors + Leask-modified WUR with high-boost diaphram
-Billet 62 Turbocharger
+reused B&B headers & exhaust, AVC-R boost controller.
RS lightweight flywheel & GT2 clutch assembly.

Should have it running by next weekend. Here are a few pictures.

Mark

What kind of performance are you expecting from the 3.6? Nice ride

My 3.3 made 387/423 to the wheels @ 1.2 bar, ran in this configuration for 150k miles or so.

The Billet62 is "the bomb" of all modern turbochargers, but didn't go Ballbearing this time as all new BB center cartridges are mandated for water cooling: something my first-generation Single BB turbocharger didn't have.

With the Leask WUR & all mods considered, I'd say "more HP & torque", & better driveability, better mileage. Car ran an 11.9 @ 117 on a medium launch at 1.1 bar back in 2001, I'll probably take it back to the track once I'm dialed in.

You running a stock FD? I don't think you will gain much more hp even though you get more airflow unless you have a modified fuel distributor. But I like that you stayed CIS and are trying to strech the envelope. Thumbs up.

Awesome build!

3.3 Sold to Ed Baus in Ohio earlier this year: I think it Frankenstein'd it for his own racing use.

Thanks guys. I'll have the FD modified once the car is mostly sorted. Not looking for "the ultimate power" yet...just better driveability/fuel...My wife averaged 14-15mpg with a failing WUR before...I could granny about 16-17 out of it, but driving the car that slow wasn't fun nor exotic.

I don't think it is necessary to change or modify the fuel distributor. It works very "as is"

But the bosh fuel pump 044 in front is a "must have" !!!!! If not enough the stock rear pump can be also changed to 044 !

New injectors with matching procedure is also recommanded !

Mark,
did you source the turbo from Speedforce Racing? The are local to me outside San Diego and I am wanting an unbiased testimonial.

Thanks,

JP

No, I had Boostlogic.com size & order it for me. I do CAD work for them & they manufactured my 928 turbocharger kits.

Mark -- Thierry put together the awesome electronic CIS fuel controller I was telling you about. It's brilliant. He's got probably the best fuel curve for a CIS Turbo. When you're ready to fine-tune the CIS, talk with him about it.

Yes, I'm sure I'll have to visit that in short order.

Car is running, yay. Had to add significant fuel to get the car started: nearly 1/2 turn on my CIS distributor, but runs great. Dialing in fuel tonight, fixing a few things, etc. Yay.
