There is a large thread about this oil being on sale at Auto z... in the 911 forum.Seems to be a good choice for our cars. I bought some and am happy with it so far. I was running rotella t 15-40 and had a few leaks, since switching I have noticed that the leaks are going away . Give it a try.....Ben

Walt, I spent a few minutes of my precious work-time today crusing through the Oil Guy forums, trying to find the link to VOA- Zinc. 1439 & 1399 amounts. Ran out of time and patience. Can you copy and past the link from your browser to this forum?
I've been happy now with two years on VR1 oil.

I have been on Bob's site and their is a lot of good info and then just a lot of info. It is like every other site where people seam to be pushing certain products and bashing others with no real facts, Yes, they provide oil analysis of oils but again they have to be read with caution. Who knows if the 15 year old writting that it is the best product ever doesn't just like the pretty label.

First off who knows what exactly the condition of the engine they are being taken from. Then there are Mfg's that will dispute facts about being low or high on one part as that is what will make their oil better. I would think if it was as easy as just dumping large amounts of zinc into oil they would do so. Problem is that will also effect your engine.

There are so many factors that it really is almost a crap shoot and trial and error might actually be the best way.

I always ask where are all the failures that everyone wants these boutique oils? Subaru guys mix some coocktail of 4 or 5 gear oils in different ratios and swear it all works. Guys mixing Harley oil, etc ,etc??

One would have to think why wouldn't the Mfg just do this themselves as any oil you are buying over the counter is targeted for retail sales as dealers but in barrels not quarts???

Good info just be careful where it is coming from. I use VR1 in plenty cars and the reason is I like the label and it seams to work well??? If a different label catches my eye that has all the other criteria I will also buy it. Anybody else like fancy labels??

To get the full benefit, I usually take a razor blade and cut the label off each quart and stuff it down the oil tank when changing oil. After all, half the performance gains with any oil is based on Marketting and "pretty labels"

Now let me rant (this is right up there with how I feel about insurance). I guess that says how I feel about marketting in general....it 's just an excuse to stretch the truth (or an excuse to outright lie, if you prefer). Sorry if this offends any marketting professionals out there, but that's the reality of it...it's all about calculated deception. I, for one, prefer cold hard undisputed and unstretched facts, and am intelligent enough to make my own decisions. The challenge is geting your hands on info/data that hasn't been manipulated to benefit someone's (usually some company's) financial outlook.

So whatdoyouthink....mo' zinc, mo' betta????

Whoa!!! Just read my post from last night....man, was I on a roll or what? Crappy day at work, sorry for venting.
Anyway, I did finally find the thread on the forum that Walt pointed to. Interesting reading, if one were to consider our 903's as a 6 cylinder Harley. Now to digest and understand the info. See if this link takes you to the discussion:

I think I read somewhere the black bottle VR1 synthetic 20w-50 has more ZDDP in it than non synthetic VR1 20w-50 but still a little less than Brad Penn 20w-50 racing oil.
The synthetic may be less likely to coke in a crazy hot turbo.

It cost twice as much as the non synthetic VR1, but was on sale for half price at autozone 11 months ago, and almost half price a month or so ago.
