Good price for a CDI box for 1985 930 (Euro)?

Hi guys,

I have heard so many people talking about spare CDI box being a good idea. What's a good price for one?

I found this place on the net:
Specialized ECU Repair - European Car Engine Computer Repair

They sell refurb (completely regutted) with original housing for $500 (less $100 for trade-in).
They also offer 5 year warranty. Does anyone have any experience with these guys?

I am NO mechanic, but I do know that these CDIs can be pricey.

Also, if the box does need swapping out, is it an easy job (unscrew, unplug) and then
just plug the new one in?

I also just want to confirm that this is the right part for 1985 930:
0 227 300 004

This is a 6 pin unit. For some reason, my mechanic thinks the 930 uses 8 pin.
Again, he's a good guy so I don't want to correct him unless I am absolutely sure.

My 930 is totally stock.

Thanks...

If your mechanic thinks it's an 8 pin i'd be concerned he doesn't know his onions..... $350 is a smoking deal to rebuild your stock one, they were mega bucks through Porsche when they were available to buy new, as much as £1400 here in the UK. I have a brand new one in a box in the garage, but can't bring myself to sell it even though i don't need it, i'll loose a lot of money on it
Can't vouch for that rebuild company, but if someone else can confirm they do a good job then that's a steel for effectively a new unit!

Definitely 6-pin, go pull the plug on the bottom and confirm for yourself, it pulls right out and pushes right back in. I sold one for $300 earlier this year and we both felt good about the price.

Unless you prefer to stay stock, the MSD units are a snap to install, easy to find, work great and are inexpensive.
