need help identifying some extra wires?

after my engine rebuild we pulled out some wires and a relay out of the engine compartment, i am thinking it was for fuel enrichment system that we pulled out last year and cleaned the rest out with the rebuild. the mechanic was unsure of what it all was for. the only thing left is this white connector that has the two wires going into it(it had 4 but to get the wiring mess out i had to cut two of them out) the car runs fine with out them! just want to make sure there is not something missing here? don't want any fires! The two wires come out of the harness that is just in front of the RED fuel relay.

There should be a part number on that relay in your last picture. If you punch that part number into PET, it will tell you what it is for...
Can you take a pic a little further back to show that white connector relative to where it is. If you can, I will compare it to my '85 slope and see if I can find one like it in there.

Omg... you didn't actually cut that wire off that connector did you? Dude, you are so screwed.
Just kidding.
The only thing I can trace those wires back to on my car is the rear wiper motor and the rear defroster. Have you tried turning on the rear wiper motor? Or turned the rear defrost on to see if the window warms up?

you had me going.... ok so the rear defroster works, the rear wiper works, there are no part numbers on it. there is a old sticker but its completely unreadable. i am thinking maybe it was part of the old alarm i pulled out? here is a better pic of where the wire/connector is. sorry i cant get a closer pic but my intercooler is so big...

There you go braggin again...
LOL

Other than those two components the last thing to check would be your engine compartment light. That's the only other thing that gets power back there. But since you cut those wires you may never figure out what that connector is for...

Here's a pic of the same area on mine. Luckily I still have the stock micro intercooler so I could get a decent pic...

I did not do a continuity test, but if memory serves me... the engine compartment light. I will check tomorrow if no one smarter than us logs on before then.

yep thats it, so it appears that with the engine running i am getting power to the connector and nothing to the light. so someone has put that connector in there to power something that used to be in the engine compartment? whatever that something is now gone. i followed the wires from the light and they disappear into the wire bundle that goes into or behind the contraption that holds the red fuse and the other three fuses. without pulling the intercooler i cant see where it comes back out to get to the two wires that are in my picture. in your picture they come out and go back in to the same bundle that mine are coming out of. if you have time tomorrow can you follow where the line with the black sheath goes to? i have that line still on the wiring mess i pulled out but cant readily see where to connect it back to? they had that line going into a relay and back into the connector? the wiring mess is a home made job.

i stopped by the local porsche junkyard to look at a few 911's in the rear and saw that one had a relay coming off the large bundle right underneath the red relay in the driver side rear. it was not mounted to anything but it looked like it belonged there. it looks alot like the one i removed? does anyone know of a relay that would be coming off the wire bundle that goes off into the engine compartment from below the red round relay. and does any one know where the line from the rear hatch light goes after it disappears into the side of the engine compartment?

If you PM me your address I will mail you a freaking multimeter so you can check continuity on the engine compartment light!!! They are $5 at Harbor Freight. Easier than me pulling apart a working car. Hahahaha

you are the greatest. i pulled the intercooler and can see that my rear hatch light disappears into a bundle. i am thinking that this plug was put in by someone, but what confuses me is your wires are the same as mine and they disappear where mine stop. i have power there,. oh and i just pmd you my address for the 5 bucks.

ok the line dissapears into the bundle and i cant find where it comes back out but i have this mystery connector that comes out and has power when the engine is running. i read my handy manual and it says that rear light comes on when the headlights are on and the flap is opened. that mystery connector only has power when the engine is running and this is where its ties into.

I feel as if there should be something that connects to these wires for the rear light but there is nothing to plug it back into and there is no wires loose anywhere?

Uh...uh... I just can't resist it...
BTW, is that the CDI connector you are holding? If so, that makes this a lot easier.

yeah i assume the cdi is the silver unit that looks like a amp, if so this is the connector that goes into the bottom of it.

If it is the CDI connector... and I am seeing your pic correctly, someone was tying into TD and 15. That means they were grabbing power and a tach signal at the same time as the CDI box. You said you pulled out a fuel enrichment circuit... the tach signal could have been used as a trigger. Power... well everyone wants power.
Either way, there should be no pigtail off of the CDI connector. I vote that you are safe to extricate those wires (and the white connector) totally from your car. Be careful getting them out of the CDI connector... don't want to screw that up. Now I will remove my hands from the keyboard. Good luck...
