Does your State require smog check if you have collector plates?

In Ohio, they don't care about smog check if the car is 25 years old or older, and the plates are a one time purchase (with some driving restrictions). In fact, my car is 100% Euro spec and they could care less. They never even asked me for the DOT or cert papers.

Louisiana - - - No smog for any year or any car...

Texas- No and if it's over 25 years old it's safety only.

Minnesota - no checks period. you can get collector plates after 25 years, which are a one time purchase (no more taxes), and you can use plates from the year of the mfg date instead of using the specific "collectors" plate. another plus is that you are allowed to run only a rear plate.

As a matter of fact, most counties do not require smog inspection, anytime, for any car, for any year.

That's because they figure all the old beaters will be rusted, dead, and gone from the roads by then. The rest of us would be minorities, free to run pig-rich. The old axiom "dilution is the solution" applies here...or something like that.

In MD, no smog check and no safety inspection for classic or street rod vehicles.
Required to be 20 or 25 yrs or older.

In MI land of the automobile.....no safety, no smog, (no speedlimits) on any vehicle old new or in between.

As roxanne68 said, in Minnesota no smog check, no safety check, no anything. Which is more than a little surprising, given pervasive nanny state tendencies here in the tundra. But since I'm running E85 in the old beastie, I doubt that I'd have problems passing a smog test in any event. One of life's many ironies, given that E85 has an octane equivalency of 114-116, and Nascar has now made it the fuel du jour.

Now if the local gendarmes would just stop trying to solve the state, county and city budget deficit quandaries with their steenkin' speed traps life would be a bowl of cherries.

Here in CO it used to be 25 years....just changed to 35 years a few years back.
