Which shifter to purchase

Which shifter should I buy for my 930 ? I see two major types sold here I don't care how it looks just want the best correct shift possible.

Steve:

I've been real happy with my Wevo, would also suggest updating
the coupling at the same time. Nite and day compared to the stock unit.

The Haggard and FabCar are probably the very best but I would say
for track use only. They sit on top of the tunnel and are completely
exposed and they set the shifter higher.

We'd say WEVO. Absolutely top-notch quality and performance.

Sorry to say about the Hargett

but firts of all its very difficult to get the gears in right position.

If you woud like to use the reverse in a normal way, you have to buy a softer spring for the reverse mechanism. Then you have to be very precise with alignement , so that the first shift feels like you use a stick in a jar can, but the rest of the shifts are good. Better to have a loose first shift than 3d or 4th

Then we have the quality of the components, pure rubbish I used it for 2000 km then I have to ask a mechanical company to totally rebuilt the mechanism with real bushings and harder material. Everything was loose and unprecise after just 2000 km.

I dont know about Wevo, my friend has Fabspeed and he is very happy with that.

Damn you Larry, all the toys I want, you already have. Can you give any feedback to counter the last posted on the Hargett? I am planning to buy one this winter for the 930.

How's the conversion on the black car coming?

I have to agree with the return spring, had to change mine, otherwise I would have bent the lever soon...

Shifting is harder, but more precise than before, but it needs a little training and fine alignement

So if you like it more comfortable, it's the wrong shifter for you

Does anyone have any feedback on one of these for a G50?

Fantastic for the G50, too. Nice tight shift pattern, but very precise and just the right amount of heft.

I went with a Wevo and the coupler about 5 years ago. 2nd had been hard to get into coming down for years. Totally cured the problem. It certainly isn't a short shifter but is way more precise.

I have a Hargett in the race car with a G50. I like the look and the position of the shifter, and the action is good.

It was delicate to set up. I'd like to see a different attachment method between the rod and the shifter/transmission. The use of grub screws allowed the rod to slip and lose adjustment. Also the steel rod rusted. The U joints also develop surface rust.

I havent used a Wevo. The Seine in the Targa with a 915 works fine.

Well, my concern is that I am also moving the engine and trans forward, so a custom lenght rod will have to be made.

Sorry for thread jacking to OP..

hey brendon, the 2nd generation shifter seems much better to me. i have one of each. the secret is to get the cup of the shifter properly aligned so that the movement to engage reverse is very slight. once you find the sweet spot it is really a nice shifter. the black car is basically done...approximately 500 breakin miles!

Doesn't matter, because you have to trimm the rod anyway

Chris, just to be sure are you referring to the Wevo or Hargett?

We prefer the WEVO shifter. Simple bolt-in, works just great.
