930 safely in the garage

The wife and I drove to Pittsburgh to visit me niece at Pitt and see some local attractions. Unfortunately, it rained the entire trip and we had a small fire, but the Porsche ran like a top (once I put out the fire). Now it's safe in the garage, but needs a good cleaning. Man, I love this car!

Nice to see you made it home safe. Rims look very good on your car.

Wife.com and I took her 964 targa (which we had recently refreshed) from SoCal to Reno, NV via 395 Scenic Sierra Highway back in Feb. Furthest that car had ever been from home. Top off all through the mountains at 35 degrees heat on full and ski caps

I've been working on the 930 (after it had been sitting a long time) to plan a similar trip possibly to wine country and/or a Big Sur trip this year.

Fun hearing about peoples road trips in these cars.

Is that a Kirkham Brothers body on your Cobra?

Yes, it is a 289 FIA with a 427w. That's the filed body with no work done to the body since the welds were filed. It is practically perfect. Now I'm trying to decide if I should paint it or not. Here's a few more shots:

That is too beautiful to paint. Can you do a brushed finish on it?

I second Miguel's suggestion to clear coat it.

i saw one at an exotic car show here in Miami a couple years ago. the guy had masked off racing stripes and gave it a brushed finish with two different grits. so it was unpainted but had racing stripes in a Little different brushed finish. It Looked incredible. these are the ones made in the old MIG factory in easter Europe some where correct?

Glad to hear you got your car home after the fire. I had a similar situation recently in my old Benz, with an exploding battery that melted some harnesses and made a mess, so I can relate. Not fun and good luck getting everything sorted out.

Charles, see this thread. It was pretty scarey at the time, particularly given it was right next to the gas tank.

Caught on fire!
