Thanks Scottrx7TT, metric to AN parts ordered plus fuel hose.

Whilst looking at the factory PDF for the Carrera I see they have a gasket set and retainer for the injectors....is this needed when using none factory spec injectors?

Number 8 and 39 in the image below.

I didnt use any of that stuff with my injectors. It looks like 39 is the oring with Pintle caps, etc for the factory injectors. It would be cool if #8 would fit in the siemens injectors. That is cheap insurance from your injectors pulling out of the intake. It may be wortha a try.

OK cool, I have asked for prices on the parts so if the #8 retainers are cheap I may just get one to try and I'll let you know.

Tippy 03-05-2017 02:15 PM

Clips #8 allow the injectors to stay in the fuel rail during install/removal.

Gavin, for your power levels, you're okay with how you have the fuel lines plumbed now.

If you want to "T" to both fuel rails, like the 3.2 Carrera and 964, that's fine, too, and your diagram is correct.
There is no need to use metric:AN adapters -- just buy the correct metric hose ends for 6AN fuel lines! Plenty of sellers in England. Alternatively you can have your fuel lines rebuilt, or DIY with fuel injection hose and high pressure injection clamps (we use stainless Oetiker pinch clamps).

TPS: TK's kit has a commonly used Hella/VDO/Continental TPS sensor. Connector is a standard Bosch 3-pin. I recommend just buy the whole kit and know that (a) it all works together and (b) it orients the TPS correctly so you can get the connector on and off
(Does not line up the connector with the manifold, for example, pinching the wiring -- yes, someone else's package does just this!)

You do not need any of that injector o-ring kit -- Scott is right, that's the pintel cap and orings, all included on new injectors.
Beware Siemens injectors on eBay. *So many* counterfeits out there. Highly recommend you purchase from a reputable seller.
Yes, injector clips (#8) do fit the Siemens.

And they have decided to use the article on my car that was published in Retro Cars, plus it looks like I have made front cover again :)

Just wish they could have waited until I get the enginel sorted with interior finished off and redo the photo shoot.

Very cool man! Our local bookstore/Mag shop nearby imports some of the cool Porsche magazines. I'll have to see if they import this one.

Aw crap, wonder if mine are legit?

For sure though, the new eBay Deka 80lbers I got off eBay idled many X's better than my old Deka 55lbers.

gavinc69 03-06-2017 09:57 AM

Chris, thanks for the info. I have just ordered your TPS kit.
Also the Carrera adaptor kit arrived today so I'll get onto modding them for my cylinder heads at the weekend.

Tippy, I just ordered the Siemens from SAS
These guys say each Siemens injector has a serial number and if you email them the numbers they will check them to see if they are genuine.

Good day today....got the last of the intake studs out with out breaking :D

I've got a few questions but I'll get to those at the bottom.

Sorry about the image quality, the camera on my phone is now so scratched etc.
Think a new phone is needed now after 4 years.

New intake studs in :

TurboKraft intake adaptors are so easy to work on. Very easy material to shape and work with. I ended up having to have almost a vertical wall on the adaptors as my heads had a bit of work done when the engine was rebuilt. Images below show nearly complete adaptor but still needed some work to finish.

Installed SC gasket and TK intake adaptor :
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1489859356.JPG

Then with Carrera gasket on top:

Test fit of Carrera intake was good :
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1489859530.JPG

Then started to work on the fuel rails:

Now to the questions.

The injectors snap into the fuel rail OK.
Then when the fuel rail is installed you can push the injectors up and down. Either down into the intake or up into the fuel rail. Both will snap in and out.
Its only about 5mm. So which way is correct?

The other question is regarding the throttle body.
My SC throttle body had above and below throttle plate vacuum ports. And I need one above and one below.
It appears the Carrera TB only has below throttle plate vacuum ports, or am I wrong? :

gavinc69 03-19-2017 09:38 AM

Intake now installed and all fuel lines connected.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1489944777.JPG

Fuel pressure test done and at first all seemed OK. I then just happened to touch injector on cylinder 1 to clean a bit of dirt off and as I did fuel started spraying from what appeared to be the top of the injector where it goes into the injector rail!! which now leads me to think that the injectors should be clicked all the way into the rail.
At present I clicked them into the rail and then once mounted on the intake I pushed them down so they clicked and went further into the intake.

flat6pilot 03-19-2017 10:02 AM

I had a similar issue on my conversion but I wasn't using the Carrera fuel rails. They had custom supports that had to be adjusted until the injector was perfectly square (perpendicular) on the rail or it would leak. All the injectors were pushed in until they clicked or felt seated.

gavinc69 03-19-2017 11:13 AM

I will push them back up into the fuel rail and click them in place. Just hope I then don't get any air leaks around the rubber seal at the nozzle end

gavinc69 04-01-2017 09:02 AM

I purchased 6 of the #8 injector securing clips today. I thought with the clips installed then the injectors will be in the correct position.
I had to push the injectors back up into the fuel rail to be able to fit the #8 clips so I guess they are now installed correctly.

Fuel pressure test done and OK :)

I also installed the TurboKraft TPS and adapter :

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491065293.JPG
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491065293.JPG

Nice easy quick install.

I have now removed the throttle closed microswitch and connected wire plus mounting hardware as I don't think i will need it and it looks a cleaner install without it.
Also removed the Thermo switch in the back of the throttle body, again looks cleaner without it.

Another item I have removed is the factory 'S' shaped turbo feed pipe. It doesn't clear the Carrera fuel rail and it's where all the Microsquirt wiring is, so without it it's easier to work in that area and get a cleaner install.

What I intend to do instead is use the (passenger side, RHD car) cold air feed for the brakes to feed air to the turbocharger. I don't currently have the air deflectors installed in the wheel fenders to direct air to the brakes anyway.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491065777.jpg

I'm looking at inline air filters and basically run a large 4 or 5" flexi pipe from this location up under the rear fender tight to the body and top of fender and then into the inline air filter and out, then reduce in size to fit the turbo inlet.

gavinc69 04-22-2017 07:49 AM

Throttle body installed plus all vacuum lines. AAR installed. Intercooler installed with BOV and air temp sensor inline. Throttle linkage bent to allow correct alignment.

New injector sizing adjusted in TunerStudio and the Required Fuel.

Car started instantly :D but........idle was about 2000rpm.

Checked and adjusted the throttle linkage several time with little success.
I'm sure I have it adjusted right. So the next thing I will try is the idle screw but this is obscured by the intercooler.

Tomorrow I will remove the IC to allow better access to the throttle body and hopefully get it idling correctly without the IC installed, then reinstall the IC.

Or I may have a vacuum leak somewhere......Any easy ways to check this? I see Pelican recommends the Smoke Pro but there mega $$$$

kenikh 04-22-2017 08:48 AM

If you have an air compressor, you can make your own Smoke Pro using plumbing hardware and cigars.

Are you using the Carrera idle valve?

Oh cool, thx.

Good to hear you got it running. That's a battle in itself sometimes when you get all twisted up and have massive brain foggage....😂
