Floating rotor install
I bought a new set of floating rotor for myn78 930. I need to replace te old ones. Does anyone have the instructions swapping tha hats out? I would imagine it should e straight forward but I don't have the torque values. Should I install new hardware (bolts) or should they be fine on a street car?

Are you replacing rotors only or the hats too?
If rotors only, then just pay attention to the order in which the nuts and mounting hardware come off the old rotor and replace in reverse order. I think the hat has a chamfer on one side of the outer edge that has to be positioned correctly in order to allow the rotor to float when torqued down, otherwise the hat could be installed backwards to the rotor. I am not 100% sure on this as its been a few years since I replaced mine and I put everything back together in reverse of how it came off.....using the assumption that the previous mechanic knew what he was doing and had assembled it right before I got there. Those are small 4mm nuts I think so torque to snug using a 1/4 inch socket and don't overtighten them. I think they use lock washers to prevent losening. Fred

My floating rotors use a bent tab set up to retain the nuts - stock part from Porsche. May be a bit of overkill, but I suspect that losing a few of the itty bitty bolts would be a bad thing if you braked firmly.
They make a lot of noise though....even though I put a dab of high temperature silicone on the sliding portion to provide a bit of a noise absorber. Dennis |

Thanks for the link. I have read that thread a couple of times in the past. I added to it the torque values for the floating rotors to be 10 Nm or 7.36 ft #'s per the manual I have section 46-8. John
