Short Throw Shift kit
 
Anyone have good experience which is the best to use?
Currently am working on an 81 930

I see Pelican has the choice of OE, Genuine Porsche, Weltmeister.

Porsche 911 & Carrera Shift Linkage - Page 3

Have seen a few threads but wanted to see what is working the best ?

The Wevo is the preferred brand and works fantastic on a good transmission. But if the transmission is tired after 32 years, then no shifter will cure that, might even make things worse.

It's not a matter of the tranny being shot, just wanted a shorter shift.

With the Wevo , what kind of time am I looking at for install?

I only have experience with the weltmeister, PO installed in my car and I'm not real impressed. I will be removing it soon as its pretty sloppy.

Wevo is in a class of it's own. It is the nicest made and best of them all.

That said, the Weltmeister has the shortest throw of all of them and if you replace the inexpensive origonal cup/ball bushing at the bottom where it connects to the long horizontal shift rod in the center tunnel, the horizontal shift rod bushing, and either make your own snug fitting shift coupler bushings out of AC hose like I've done or replace it with the very nicely made Wevo shift coupler it works pretty good and cost around 1/6 the price of the Wevo.

My Weltmeister has short throws, it's tight and is not sloppy at all. I like it.

Another thing I like about using the Weltmeister in my experience is it uses the origonal angled back steel shift rod the shift knob is on.

I didn't like having to lean forward a tad to reach 3rd gear so I removed the leather shift boot, put a damp towel over the seats to protect them, and used an acetylene and oxygen torch to heat the vertical shift rod red hot where it makes the bend back toward the driver.
Then while in second gear I pulled the shift knob back towards me and a little to the left where it is more comfortable for me and doesn't come too close to the driver seat. Now 3rd gear is not as far away with no lean forward to select it and shifting through all the gears is much more comfortable and pleasent for me.

In the end the Wevo is made alot better than any other I've seen but you can't change the shape or angle of the one with the aluminum vertical shift rod.
The Weltmeister is simpler, has shorter throws than any other shifter that mounts in the origonal position that I know of, and cost alot less.

935 boost knob. Some call it "dial-a-death".

That's the only gold anodized one I've ever seen. They're usually satin aluminum color or clear anodized. You're so lucky to have an original one.
I've seen people offer a thousand bucks or more for one of those...
Looks really good the way you installed it.

Was it like that when you found it under your seat?

Nope, it's and air pressure regulator so that you can limit the amount of pressure the wastegate diaphram sees and thus increase the opening point of the valve past the point determined by the wastegate spring (increasing boost pressure) . . .

It doesn't limit or regulate the amount of air pressure going to the bottom side of the wastegate diaphram, it regulates the amount of air pressure going to the top side of the diaphram so as more pressure is on the top side it takes more boost air pressure on the bottom side to open the wastegate making more horsepower in the process.

Yeah, it was tucked away under the seat when I got the car, hidden and for good reason. I had know idea what the heck it was and left it alone. When I found out how rare it was, I just had to put it somewhere where I could see it and use it. I saw some of the photos where they mounted the things near the dash, so I did a little mod to that useless center counsel. Now it's way tempting to have it right next to your friggin hand by the shifter and, man, does it work well! Just a little turn and hold on. It really is nice to have it so close when shifting because you can just knob it and the boost goes higher or lower, whatever you want.

I'm glad you got one of those and thats a real nice one.

I remember seeing them mounted by the shift knob or where the clock was in some 935's so the driver could take his right hand off the wheel and reach a few inches to turn it up and pass a car or whatever.

You've got the coolest shifter and center console in the 930 world and it changed the subject of this thread because it looks so good... excellent clean looking job on the console!
