widebody on a budget:)
Posted on body and paint with nothing so here it is.
Sounds really stupid and it might be, I was looking at the whole rear quarters from rennspeed to avoid flair peeling problems and paint issues with metal/glass incompatibilities, but it looks like it might move the bond issue to the window area and the striker area. Has anyone done this or have any ideas/comments about this? Good idea/bad idea? Thanks. www.Rennspd.Com

You said on a budget, but didn't say how BIG that budget will be.
Looks good so far. Been working about 30-40 hours a week on my project and staying within budget. Getting close to my cap, but I have a ton of stuff that is going up for sale soon and more when the project is done. |

Well my budget just fluttered tonight. Took the car on its shakedown run and it leaks like mad. Smokes because if the oil, runs pretty awesome though. I got issues to work on. I'm a rookie and this engine has been pricey and I'm hoping I don't have to go in again. I don't really have a budget but really want wide hips and don't want to spend 10k to get it.

Mine is in the planning stages but my plans are to go with RSR flares or turbo quarters and add 934 flares if you are going widebody why not do it right. Because of the bonding issues I plan on cutting my quarters in an outline much like Ghost did but I am going to flange the cuts and use welting to get the joint almost flush. I don't think you want to move your joints into the areas you are talking about because those areas have even more body flex than the others if you go the bonding route just prep properly and use the highest quality adhesive you can get but what I have heard is it will eventually crack at the joint how well you do it determines when. Hope this helps and good luck.

My car has a custom mold rear quarter from these guys:
Home - Dawe's Motorsports They allow for an additional 1" of lowering without rubbing issues. They are attached with cam-lock fasteners. Dawes motorsport builds race cars and this body work is used on many of them....i was actually surprised how solid they are on the car. Granted it is not for everyone but it imparts a serious look and they can be removed for working on the car or replaced if damaged. I guess you could install and paint them yourself to keep the cost down.

Also, front fenders are off the shelf Getty turbo fenders.....but then they added a couple more inches to the flair.
Certainly if you used the items I did, mounted as we have.....and did all the work yourself.....i think it would be about the cheapest you could do. Maybe around $2000-$2500.

The only reason we widened the fronts was to use this bumber without RSR front fenders:

Yours looks great but for a really inexpensive wide body, why not just do as the factory did on the early cars. Crude but just zust fasten on faring . There is one on ebay now done this way item#330663708652 and asking $78K for the finished car. Looks like the way they were originally done in the 70s so?? Photo of my early built 1979 911SC to 934.5 with twin turbo power done for 12"rims. Quick, clean, inexpensive and comparatively easy to install.

Ok, a few more. It's more for track use but has some things that might be used for a street machine.
