911SC - Mystery Engine Part

I'm in the process of installing a M&K one in/out muffler, which is replacing a Bursch muffler that rusted through.

There is a bracket that is in the way, and I don't see that it serves any purpose.

This mystery bracket is below the muffler bracket, and I think that it's on the rear of the lower alternator pulley enclosure.

I've checked the catalogs in the engine and exhaust sections and haven't found it yet.

Bottom Line: Does anyone know what this bracket is/does, and will it hurt anything if I remove it???

Thanks in advance...

You might have better luck in the 911 forum (this is the Turbo/Supercharging forum) . . .

If you mean the horizontal flat bracket on the motor mount yoke, that appears to be something someone welded on there in the past.

You can certainly cut it off if it's in the way now. I've never seen the yoke with the bottom holes slotted either but I don't know about all the older ones.

The position of that bracket looks like it should be a turbo bracket as it's very near to the postition where turbo would be

I was thinking that too. Only one small vertical gusset on it so it's pretty weak for a turbo but maybe this car had an aftermarket turbo kit on it sometime in it's history...

All that rust at the end of the bracket tells me it was getting very hot...

And the answer is...

Based on the fact that the old muffler was a Bursch (I think), I tripped over a picture on the forum that showed a bursch muffler with the exact same bracket installed.

Thanks for all of your replies !!!
