OMG, Selling my 930, Am I crazy?
I can't believe I'm sell my '87 930
F/S 1987 930 fast in red I'm currently looking for a street/track car. I've found a '72 911 that the seller has spent a lot of money on. It's a '72 chassis with a full cage(even the suspension is tied into), RSR/935 coil-over suspension all the way around, fuel cell, fiberglass doors, hoods, fenders, and sunroof, big fender extensions with wide tires, big brakes, a 3.2L mechanically injected twin-plugged engine that makes 300hp that sounds awesome. The cars weighs somewhere around 2100 lbs. So am I crazy or not?

Well one's a street car, one is a track toy. Hard to compare, really. Didn't you just buy the 930? It does sound like you've fixated on the next one. Any impulse buy that comes at the expense of something else has a high regret potential.
How many track days are you really going to do? 5-8x a year is a lot. It's expensive.

The purchase price on a track car just represents the down payment on what's to follow.

I have both, a '75 Carrera race car (for sale) with all the trick stuff and the DP. Unless you plan on doing door to door racing, (which I enjoyed) I'd stay with the turbo, just because it's more versatel.
Looks like your motor is set up pretty well. With some suspension mods and better gearing it would be a blast on the track at the PCA DE events, and would still be a great street car. I tracked my stock '78 turbo a bunch of years ago at Laguna Seca & Sears Point. The stock gearing is horrible.

I had a 1972 911S Targa Euro here in the states and it was a blast to drive. Not to mention in its day it was a very quick ride. However now I'm on my 5th Porsche a 1987 930 and it's now my most favorite P car to date. I even sold my 2007 Carrera 4S so that I could keep my 930. There is nothing quite like them. The 72 is my second favorite so I understand what you’re faced with.
Good luck! |

Note to self.
Nice marketing strategy. Put car for sale Then plug it on the forum to bump sale. Otherwise nice car, well built.

Easy solution. Keep the 930, and buy the '72.
I had a very track focused '72. Nothing else has ever matched it for visceral thrills. The downside was it was difficult on the street. It bottomed on anything and everything, it set off car alarms, you could smell it a mile away (actually, I liked that). Best damn car I ever owned.

I would have a difficult time selling my '87 turbo cab, my vote would be to work a little overtime, keep the 930 and add to the collection
