EFI Conversion Started

Hi Guys

I am planning to do a MS2 EFI conversion.
Stopped by my local U-Pull yard and picked up a couple of EDIS modules plus the coil connectors. Was going to grab the coils as well but didn't have the correct Torx bit.
One question, what is the plastic connector indicated by the the arrow? Is it a wire termination block?
I see the 20 UF capacitor on the coil connector.

What, another one? -efi :) cool

What did you pull those off and how much?

Really looking forward to your progress.
Is you engine stock?

sjf911 04-07-2013 04:25 PM

IIRC that connector is the "test port" (diagnostic).

jpilcher 04-07-2013 04:48 PM

Pulled them off a Ford Ranger. Paid $7.00 for everything shown. Diagnostic port? So I can eliminate?
Current engine mods, 3.4L Twin Plug Motor, SC Cams, Andial Intercooleer, K27-7200 Turbo, .8 Bar Spring, PowerHaus Headers, PowerHaus Dual Tip Muffler, Electromotive HPV1 Ignition c/w Map Sensor. I am wondering if I can use my Electromotive coils as part of my EDIS system? I plan on getting my injector blocks and rails from TurboKraft. The bulk of the system will be purchased from DIYautotune.

Doesn't it also set timing to 10 degrees to test limp mode?

Tippy 04-07-2013 05:05 PM

Make sure you use RESISTOR type spark plugs or the EDIS will misfire. "drmatera" discovered this the hard way.

jpilcher 04-07-2013 06:14 PM

Currently running resistor style plugs for Electromotive setup. I read that the GM DIS coils are better than the Ford EDIS coils. I've also read that the GM coils can be used with the EDIS system.
Anyone ever done this?

Thanks

That's going to be one sweet engine once you're done. Well, it already is

I think limp home mode is in response to loss of the PIP signal. IIRC I used the diagnostic port as a +12V square wave source to drive the tachometer.

What are you using for the fuel side of the system?

9dreizig 04-07-2013 08:10 PM

Subscribing!! Lot's of pics as it progresses please!!

That's good to know. Great find!

Hi Guys

Getting ready to do some shopping. I have started to compile a list and I wanted to run it by you guys and get your opinion or advice on my selection. Please let me know if I have overlooked anything. Or if I have spec'd something that doesn't work.

ECU
MegaSquirt-II EMS System - SMD PCB3.57 Assembled ECU
JimStim 1.5 MegaSquirt Stimulator w/ Wheel Simulator - Assembled
MegaSquirt Relay Board - Assembled Unit
12' MegaSquirt Wiring Harness (MS1 / MS2 / MS3 Ready)
MegaSquirt Relay Cable

Ignition
Twin Plug EDIS modules & connectors. - Pulled from Kenny U-Pull
Dual Accel-Ford-Super-EDIS-Ignition-Coil-Packs
VR Crank position sensor 2004 Ford Focus 2.0 DOHC 948F 6C315 AA
Going Super Fast - Aluminum Crank pulley trigger kit 36-1 Wheel
Clewett Twin Plug Wire set modified to accept Ford coil connectors, or purchase 2 sets of Crown Vic wires.
NGK Resistor Spark plugs

Fuel

Sensors
AEM Wideband
Throttle Position Sensor - My car currently has one, can I re-use this with the Megasquirt?
Need some recommendations on IAC? What works, what doesn't with Megasquirt?
Cylinder Head Temprature Sensor? Recommendations?
Intake Air Temperature Sensor? Recommendations?

Intercooler - Re-use Andial Intercooler. Modify Circulate Manifold.or buy Long Neck Intercooler from Turbokraft or Fabspeed.
Blow-off valve - Recommendations
Intake Piping
Intake Air Filter

Looking to get this completed in the next month so that I can get car back on the road, and enjoy the summer. Tranny is currently being rebuilt, so engine is out of the car.
How much would my current CIS system be worth? Also currently running a Twin Plug Electromotive HPV1 ignition, how much would this be worth? It has Map sensor.
Car runs good, but I want to take it to the next level. Looking to get around 450 hp.

Thanks in advance.

John

My list of sensors:

1. 2004 Ford Focus VR with GSF 36-1 crank trigger (required for EDIS)
2. GM IAT from DIYAutotune
3. C3.2 factory cyl head temp
4. C3.2 factory idle valve
5. Early-mid-'90's BMW TPS (any model minus 318 IIRC) and machined a .500" spacer/adapter block to fit C3.2 TB

I have a 1.5" HKS BOV

jpilcher 04-23-2013 07:42 PM

Thanks Tippy.

Tippy 04-23-2013 08:00 PM

No problem. :)

The plug you pointed at is for checking timming. When you remove the plug it stops any timming input from the ecu.

xbmwguy 04-24-2013 02:56 AM

pilcher keep it. it will enable you to verify timing easily as this ,when unplugged, will put you at 10 degrees---limp home mode. i also have a set of siemens 60# for 200.00 if needed
