Fan shroud help please!
My 87 930 fan shroud (cooling fan surround) has cracks on the supports
I would rather find a replacement than try to repair the magnesium. I have found a shroud (on Ebay) for a 76-79 turbo - Part number 901 106 1015R. Mine is part number 930.106.102.4R Is there a huge difference? Will the older shroud fit mine? I believe the older 76-79 has a smaller alternator and so maybe mine will not fit. I just installed a new alternator in mine, so buying a new alternator to fit the smaller shroud is not ideal. Anyone know of any other shrouds from other 911's which should fit?? I know when I had my 86 911 Carrera (which also had a cracked shroud) an SC shroud fitted! Any advice appreciated Thanks Ben

Thanks Akila
looks like there are not any alternatives - guess I will have to try and get the shroud welded - unless I am reading that wrong? Thanks

From the chart looks like you could use any 245 mm fan shroud from 75-89. IIRC the most concern seems to be the diameter. I was sent this chart because I wanted to find Aluminum pieces to polish. Give Ed Baus on the board a pm.

After 84 its the depth of the alternator using the large Paris Rhone.
The pre 84 used a smaller alternator (depth wise) so there is more base metal to the bottom of the alternator seat |

You can always buy a repo from Vertex auto.... They are made from Al, instead of Mg... I have heard good and bad stuff about the fittment of the part.... but its new, and about the same price as a good used one, and its Al, so it can be welded on if need be

Go for the vertex
I had the same problem with my 88 turbo...
Call vertex and tell them what you have and they will send you the right one. I looks good and fit right into the spot with no problem. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I had the same problem with my 1988 spent two weeks looking for magnesium rod to weld it and i would have had to buy 20 lbs then build a jig and machine it out. So I bought the aluminum one and it fit just about spot on with a little sanding and filing. I then primed and painted it black then painted my fan red to match my car. Looks good.
I was a little worried about the aluminum corroding with salt spray |

The Vertex guys will take care of you, if you don't mind aftermarket stuff.

Vertex. Paint to your preference (mine is Zinc Chromate - an "aviation" look). Done!
