Tiptronic or Manual?
I am a 930 owner looking to acquire a 993. Coming from the very basic/connected feel of a 930 all 993's feel a little refined. I have been looking for a manual car but keep finding better options/pricing for Tiptronics and I guess I haven't spent enough time driving one to trust myself on how satisfying it is; so looking for any advice on which way to go...
Cheers, Rob |

Can't imagine anyone on this forum advising a tiptronic!!!
Having said that, I did have a 993 Cabrio (6speed) alongside the 930 at one point. All I can say is that it was like a more fun version of the family Audi A4 (with sport package) that we also had at the time. Very refined and a great touring car, but no replacement for the 930. Tipper 993 would be a nice looking alternative to a BMW335 or MB e class cabrio, but will feel absolutely dull in comparison to the 930.

LOL, not the most exciting but, still, better than not having a 911, nothing like the new gen PDK boxes, the shifts happen about 5 seconds after you hit the + - button. You know when you look into a 964, 993, 996 and see the 'tipper', the wave of disappointment that shortly follows? Or is it just me?! And yes they will always be cheaper than manual cars, supply > demand.

Manual all the way. I have a '77 930 (3.0L non-intercooled) and a '96 993TT. You are indeed correct that the 993 is substantially more refined, drives like a modern/recent car despite being nearly 20 years old. They're both incredibly fun, but in different ways.
