CIS plunger question
 

Last night when my car wouldn't start (again) I pressed the plunger to see if anything would happen (nothing did). Then after reading a million posts, I noticed that people say to "Lift" the plunger. This is puzzling since my plunger wont go any higher (I tried to pull it up); I can only push it down against the spring pressure. It pops right back up when I release it.

What does this mean? Is it supposed to be normally in the down position?

911's have "up draft" air flow meters(AFM's) and 930's have "down draft" AFM's.
since you are in the 930 side and yours wont go up, is it safe to assume you have a 930?

for a 930:
you did not say if the fuel pump is on so i have to cover everything +.
the air sensor plate should be pretty level. i could not find the pic i was looking for, but this may help.
if the sensor plate is all the way down and you can see past it, then the pplunger is stuck in the up position. if the fuel pump is on and you push down and it is coming back up, it is working as it should.

when you say, "Is it supposed to be normally in the down position?" that makes me think that the plate is not in its proper resting position.

perhaps some more info/history and year and car, and a pic or 2.
