Forum Stalker Finally Joined

Hey folks, just wanted to say hello. Been lurking this site for years while saving up to buy the car that hung on my childhood bedroom wall.

Finally hit 40 and said what the hell, only live once....So the search began, and after a year of climbing around others lost interest projects, I found the one..

I sold my wife, the dirt bikes and the boats and picked up a new to me 1984 Euro spec, paint to sample no visible rust 930...FINALLY!!!! Woooooooooot!!!

Wanted to say thanks to all of you for your pre purchase knowledge I gained from slinking around.

I have had the car for three months now, and have been contemplating, go back to stock , or or start playing....... Still cant decide and will be picking your brains...

Car had, when purchased
AFTMKT - intercooler ( brand unknown )
- SS exhaust ( looks to be b&b ) not positive
- tial waste gate ( i think )
- turbo tag has 7200 on it
- three piece oz wheels
- momo wheel

I have since swapped out with a wevo shifter, all new bushing, new version coupler ( shifts super nice now )... added a spacer to the steering wheel - was hitting the dash with my knuckles... changed oil etc etc etc....

and now the itch.....what else can I do to it......thoughts of mods are driving me nuts......or go back to stock????????

I do know that I need to do something about the oil cooler-I live in south Florida... still has the 28 tube brass cooler- runs a little hot for my tastes.... best solution?????

anyway..... thanks again....and heres a few pics if this works

It's not the purchase price, its the maintenance.

OP, I love that dark blue on these cars. JFairman and IMR-Merlin have paint in the same blue family and it's a great color.
Welcome and look into the later fan units for the front cooler. I think 87-89 had them. And make sure the engine is not filthy. A good degreasing can make a difference if that's the case.

Congrats...love the color. IMO the older turbo seats are the best looking seats Porsche made for our model. Well since you did install the wevo(plus your other mods ) I say mod it to your liking but plan well. Though if you know of someone with a stock one, may I suggest you take a ride in one.... night and day.

As someone asked...what's the going price for a wife today? Trade ins almost never work out..lol

Thanks for the greeting fellas

Imr-Merlin .... You apparently have good taste filling your garage with two cool rides

Cellison ...... Price of the wife? You never get back what you put in

Gsxrken ...... Degreaser ? Simple but genius-----will do!!!

Sck007 ...... Same interior, I really like the colors, especially where it's always sunny

Speednme1 ....I too think the older turbo seats look the best... Only wish the drivers seat had elevation control.... I would like to sit a bit higher

You did it right - you lurked in the shadows as a closet Porschevert, learned what you were yearning to possess, then came out of the closet with appropriate knowledge. Me, I did it the opposite. Wish I knew then what I know now, but sometimes we get lucky.

Welcome aboard! You are in for one hell of a ride and we'll provide you with enough support and direction to totally confuse you.

Love the color, welcome. On a side note I also love the 2013 JK Rubi in the background.

Absolutely stunning! Those old school three piece OZ wheels are fantastic and so damn rare now, makes me smile when I see a set.

Please photograph your engine bay and we will be able to identify your intercooler and your exhaust system.

Regards - Yasin

Actually it's a Garretson intercooler with cast aluminum end tanks.

Andial intercoolers like that one were made by Garretson and if it was sold by Andial it had a metal nameplate on the rectangular raised flat section on the cast aluminum front end tank that said... ANDIAL.

Here is a picture of my old intercooler. It looks like it has the same cast end tanks.

Jfairman-thanks for the info...need to clean it up a bit but looks to be in decent shape. I have noticed though that after a nice drive it seems a little warm if I touch it. Does the top seal help out a lot? It fits in the deck lid fairly well, maybe 1/8 space? Should I add the seal?

I would use the seal. It helps to seal the intercooler from hot air in the engine bay and force cool air from the deck lid through instead.

Soooo, any ideas were to get a seal? Or a decent substitute material? I guess andial has been absorbed by Porsche. Garretson is not around.... Bummer
