High idle
My car is idling at 2500 rpm, I don't know much about my car I just got it. It's a 1986 911 with a 930 turbo conversion. Can I just adjust the idle by the throttle cable?

try pinching the larger hose on the passenger side of the intercooler to see if your idle drops down. if so then your auxiliary air valve is sticking open

You can try to clean the electrical connector sometimes it get corroded or oil fouled.
Other than that, if its sticking internally not much to do but by a new one which costs a left testicle and then some. I and some other posters have removed it from the system and the car runs without it. Just takes a little more throttle effort on your part during cold weather starts. as long as you dont drive in freezing temps it starts ok without it. Good luck, Fred

I want to thank you so much for your advise. I bought the car and it hasn't ran well and I live in Montana and no one would touch my car. So valve didn't have power to it and it works fine now. Thank you

I have a 1986 911 with turbo it was running ok we changes the plugs and now the car won't idle. It starts then dies out. I am try ing advance the timing but their isn't enough space. Can I lift the shaft on the distrubtor to advance the timing so I can time it? You helped me before I thought I would ask to see if you might know. My friend say he wants to lift the shaft and turn it. Edit Report |

Wait a minute....it was running fine but with a low idle that you traced to the AAR. Now, you changed the plugs and it won't idle. It goes without saying, do indeed check that you've got the plug wires on the correct cylinders before you go messing with the timing. You should not have to re-index the distributor to get correct timing. Also make sure that you didn't accidentally disconnect one of the vacuum lines on the distributor.
