Schema is Italian, not German.
It is a decent part but the buyer should be aware that it will be noisy. Not factory quiet with those ones. |

I run an 8:37 R&P with a short second and third gear set. It's not
at all noisy because you can't hear it over the Zork. Cole

I only mention the noise because being in the gear business I have heard a lot of guys complain about it over the years. Most of us would think gear whine is an awesome sound, but a few months back I had a customer get really bent out of shape when his new R&P wasn't factory quiet.
Considering my brand new ones run $2800, at 1/4 the price this one is a total steal. I don't think it will be on the market long. |

Yep, short, decided togo back to the stock 9:36 and bought all new gears in the ratios i want.

Perhaps Matt could clear this up for me. I had thought that the lower ratio gear sets were not as strong as the factory set due to the spacing and number of teeth. I had considered a lower ratio however at 500+ bhp the car seems to,i guess "grow" into the tall stock final drive. My car has the factory LSD and gearing. It has run 11.3 sec quarter mile and is as quiet as a mouse.

Hi Werk! what i'm refering to is the original standard ring and pinion that would have been fitted at the time the car was brand new, as it was on the showroom floor. From my testing and development at the drag strip,the stock setup has been unbreakable... so far! What i was unsure about was the strength of the shorter gear sets,and indeed the need to select 4th gear before passing the quarter mile,thus meaning time lost changing gear Vs the maybe the benefit of getting the car up to speed sooner..

Hey Andy,
Have you run into troubles with backlash with this R&P? I've got a little backlash right now I know will necessitate a transmission refresh, eventually. Only 77K on the odometer and as far as I know, no track time on the car. Henry, Sorry for taking this thread so far off topic. Wish I knew if I need a R&P replacement set RIGHT NOW. That is a very good deal you're offering.

You need not worry about the strength of the shorter ring and pinion set. Keep in mind that the factory originally produced the 8:41 for the 935 racecars, which were making 2,3 and sometimes 4 times as much power as their showroom brethren. That said, not all brands are created equal. Schema is on the lower end of the spectrum behind the likes of Porsche themselves, Andial and Ricardo. Doesn't mean I am calling it junk though. RUF contracted Schema to do a couple of runs of these units over the years, and RUF wouldn't put their name to junk. |

Thank you Matt. With this R&P and a stock ratio 4speed i wonder what the speed in each gear would be at 7000rpm... Interesting stuff. Werk i have had no problems with backlash. I agree this is a great price! Cheers guys

How much work is involved in replacing the r&p? Is this something I can do without special or Porsche specific tools? Any light you can shed would be appreciated. Regards, Tom Slivan

Tom,
Installing a R&P in any vehicle should left to an expert. Some very precise work is needed to ensure proper pinion depth, backlash, pinion/carrier preload, etc. However, if you can rebuild a Porsche engine, properly, there's no reason a novice couldn't do it. Patience is a virtue.

Thanks Dave, exactly what I was looking for. In other words it likely means Id have transmission parts sprayed around my kitchen counter well into 2014. Still intriguing nonetheless... It seems we run a similar setup and I see you run this on your car, what is your experience with this change in R&P?
