930 Replace stone guards or not??

My 87 930 is currently having a glass out re-spray back to original Silver. I am updating my cars' look with Yellow Bird turbo bumpers.

My questions is should I leave the stone guards off the car for a sleeker look?

I have seen a few 930's with 964/RSR bumper cover updates and the car looks good with and without the stone guards.

Should they be replaced or leave them off?

If you take them off expect stone chips or put the clear stone guard on.

Personally, I would have a set copied in the clear bra material. Think that would go along better with the Ruf bumpers.

I really like the black, shark fin stone guards on the 930 flares, so I would put new ones back on.

I'm so used to seing them on 930's that it's part of the look of the car for me. So my vote is get new ones and stick them on. They seem to do a pretty good job of protecting the paint from stone chips.

You could get the magnetic ones, and do what ever you feel like on a day to day basis.

I like them on to protect those rear sexy curves, the car looks naked with them off. JMHO

All great ideas guys Thank you! While searching for photos of a Yellow Bird turbo body, I found this one - I think I like it with the stone guards

I pulled mine recently and like the look w/o. Course I'm running sans rockers and rear bumper as well.
I think the magnetic shark fins as a great idea.

where would you get magnetic shark fins ?

pkabush 11-01-2013 09:51 AM

Not sure. I would try a local vinyl graphic / sign shop. Probably be able to find something on line as well.
I'm guessing the texture wouldn't be a perfect match but it may not be noticeable seeing as they're black. If you can find the material it would be easy to cut out using yours for a template.

I think this pelican makes them:

A friend has a 930 sans shark fins. The rear fenders look sandblasted. I'd go for some sort of protection there. I like the black shark fins. Just looks right to me.
