Spacers

I am going to change out my present 15" BBS rims for 17" or 17" rims. When discussing this with some friends they mentioned I should also dump my 24.8mm spacers (rears only) and have the rim manufacturer adjust the offset. What are the pro's and cons to doing this?

There are no cons if the rim will fit over the caliper and has the right offset. The pro is you remove the unsprung extra weight of the spacer on there now and the dish of the wheel will be deeper.
What kind of car is it? A 930 comes with a 28mm spacer in the rear and as far as I know the original fuchs wheel centers used in Lindseys and some others will not fit over the rear caliper without a spacer, it will hit the caliper.
There are some aftermarket 17" and 18"wheels that are the right offset and clear the rear calipers with no spacer.

I prefer keeping the spacers rather than shortening the studs. Plus, someday you may want to put your stock Fuchs back on the car.

The car is a 1985 930. I am leaning toward 18" Forgeline monoblock aluminum rims.

if it were me, building rims? I'd forego the spacers - added heft complexity cost and aggrevation... that I'm coincidentally having to go thru now since I bought take-offs since I can't afford build-'em-messelfs' 8-/

If you ditch the spacers with the new wheels, keep in mind the spare tire may need it to fit properly. You wouldn't want to find that out the hard way on the side of the road someplace.

However, even with the spacer, the studs are now shorter and the spare still won't mount.

Those are pretty good looking wheels on Ronnie's 930.
